The aptly named Targus USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Dual Video Adapter does exactly what the name suggests; it adds option to add up to two displays via a USB 3.0 adapter. It's based on DisplayLink's new DL-3900 chipset which allows for a pair of display to be driven over USB 3.0.The device itself doesn't look like much, a small black box with a short USB cable at the rear and an HDMI and DVI port at the front. We're not sure if it was a wise choice by Targus to use a none removable cable, as we've already experienced issues with some USB 3.0 devices where the cables have caused poor connectivity, but hopefully Targus has tested this to make sure it'll last the lifetime of the device.
Each display connector can drive an independent display at resolutions of up to 2048x1152, somewhat disappointing considering the DL-3900 chipset should support resolutions of up to 2560x1600, but this would require a dual-link DVI port, an HDMI 1.3 or DisplayPort connector, something which apparently is missing here. The HDMI does at least support 5.1-channel audio and HDCP 2.0 for copy protected content. The Targus USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Dual Video Adapter should be available as of now at a retail price of US$99.99 (S$125) which isn't too bad when you consider Targus is asking for US$79.99 for its single port version.Source: Targus
