SEGA today confirmed it is delaying the release of Aliens: Colonial Marines until later this fall.

The game was originally scheduled to ship this coming spring. “Aliens: Colonial Marines is a process of creativity and invention and those don't necessarily follow the structure of an assembly line," SEGA and Gearbox Software said in a statement sent to Game Informer.

"While setting clear goals, deadlines and predictions is helpful, they are often subjective. We don't want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blue print. We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blue print because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritizing this goal over the previously targeted date.”

Four new Aliens: Colonial Marines screenshots have made their way online via AGB.

They show off a fire fight with a pack of zenos, an unsuspecting marine about to get it from behind, and another trying to wrestle an alien in one of those sections from the game that'll be presented as a struggle from a first person perspective.

Last month Sega revealed Aliens: Colonial Marines Escape mode, a new multiplayer game type which pits two teams of four against each other, one playing as marines trying to reach an evacuation point and the other as xenos attempting to eliminate the soldiers.

The publisher has confirmed an Aliens: Colonial Marines release date of February 12, 2013 on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, with a launch date for Wii U set to be "revealed at a later time".
