The Tale of Two Puppies(shorty-story of these puppies) :
On late afternoon of january 18, 2012; while i was talking to a fellow CSDC(
Cebu South Dog Club) member in bahadas, tabunoc; there was this young boy(around age 5-7) who passed us carrying these two puppies. we didn't hesitated to ask where he was going or what he was going to do with the two puppies, each full at his little hands.
the young boy answered in cebuano dialect; "ako ning dalhon sa leung wha, ako ilabay" (meaning: im going to leung wha, i'll throw away these puppies). shocked and surprised upon hearing this; i instantly asked him if i can take the poor souls in his hands for me to take it home instead. the young boy didnt hesitated, for it seemed that these puppies was asked by his parents(or whoever asked him to throw it away) as a burdening errand to this young boy.
while carrying these poor puppies in each of my hands, the young boy followed me and started asking questions. he first asked, "asa diay mo ga puyo kuya?(english: where are you residing?)", i answered "diha sa kanang balay nga naay dag-kong iro(english: in that house where there are big dogs)". he added "ah! kanang naay mga
german shepherds"(english: ah! that house with
german shepherds), i answered "yes" in continuity.
when we arrived at our gate, he politely asked if he can go inside. i said "yes, please come in", after-all during that time our dog/s are not of any threat to visitors since we have them in their cage or inside the house since we frequently have visitors(either ours or from our tenants in the compound). i carefully placed down the two puppies in the floor of our veranda, feeling their fear and small bodies trembling probably because of not used to being carried. as an experienced dog owner and dog handler; i know they should be left alone and have them feel comfortable in their new surroundings. i took a nice warm clothed floor mat and placed it on the cemented floor then placed the puppies on top of it. took an old stainless dog water and food basin/bowl, washed it and placed it beside the puppies. i have to do all these in a HASTE hence my other dogs are barking furiously after seeing the two little pups on my hands. probably because their PREY DRIVE is raging and second, probably my dogs are jealous seeing me carrying these two puppies.
i noticed while doing all these hastily preparations, the young boy was staring in amazement to one of my dogs(a full grown adult male
german shepherd in his cage). probably amazed because its uncommon in our area for this young boy to see such a dog of such size. he then broke his silence by asking me "ang kanang mga itoy, imo nang ipakaon niya?(english: are you going to feed the puppies to that dog?)", referring to my
german shepherd. he asked it in a serious innocent tone, that made me laughed a bit and answered jokingly "ngano man; ganahan ka ipakaon nako sila sa iyaha?(english: why; do you want me to feed these puppies to him?)". much to my surprise i was caught overboard by his excitement and said "hala! sige sige! i-pakaon kuno kuya!!(english: wow! yes! feed the puppies to him!!)". in a much serious tone and face i told him i was just kidding. in no way would i ever do that. he then said "ngano man kuya, ako naman gani nang ilabay unta. maayo pa na imo na ipakaon sa iyaha mabusog pa siya.(english: why wont you, i was supposed to throw those puppies away anyways. if you feed those puppies to him, it will make him full)".
then, reality strike me. i know i can go decades arguing with this innocent mind. what i cannot fathom in that innocent mind is at his age; he has too much violence and cruelty already in his thoughts towards the animals.
can i then conclude that this boy had gotten the thoughts of his parents or whoever asked him to throw the puppies away? can i say his words is a product of influence from the tragic and violent media? was it really his intention to feed the poor puppies to my adult-large dog?
i wish i can read his mind. for what ever is running in his thoughts; i wouldn't care. my eyes was then fixed to the two little puppies. having PITY to them, that IF i was NOT THERE to ask the young boy what he is going to do with the puppies; these puppies would have been in a very bad fate and bad future. an obvious candidates of STRAY dogs when they grow up.
SO HERE I AM, with my dog loving nature and with these two beautiful puppies i am temporarily sheltering. not giving them names for i dont want to establish any ATTACHMENT. for your dog loving homes and your RESPONSIBLE OWNERSHIP.
