    Default pc not booting up

here's the situation. i have 2 hardrives, 1 master and 1 slave. just earlier this month, i had problems with the slave not being detected or slows down the computer specially during boot up. its kinda intermittent. sometimes it reads, sometimes it doesnt. when i disconnect the slave, pc runs fine. so i thought why not replace the slave with a new one. so i did. and still got the same problem. this time, it will not boot up at all or if it does, its not detecting the slave drive. already tried different cables but still no go. tried another procie and still same thing. also tried different sata ports on mobo. still have to try another mem stick. what else could be the culprit? could it be the mobo? psu? bios? ram? any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys.

my suspect for that issue is the motherboard. maybe it needs to update to the latest bios firmware.

pirmanente gyud ko kasugat ani nga problema hehehe, ma Intel man or ma AMD, usually mu occur ni (sa akong experience) sa mga gamit na nga PC (1 year or two) my remedy is insane but works(I guess), labhan nako ang motherboard ug tubig ug JOY detergent, labi na nga ang chipset IC puno ug abog, mga buang gyud ang transmission between SATA controller IC and the RAM modules

Unsay OS nimo ug service pack and unsay capacity sa new HD?
Did you format the slaves from the same system?

What's your power supply? How old is it?
This would be my primary suspect.

Also, is the drive not being detected by the BIOS or OS only or both?

i also had this problem before where one of the harddrives cant be detected or sometimes both cant be detected. the culprit was my thermaltake 400w psu

win 7 sp1. 160gb. the old slave was formatted with a different system. could that also be an issue?

generic tommade 550 watts. not sure how old. i think its a year old or less.
the new slave drive cant be detected by both. sometimes the bios will not detect even the master. the old slave drive sometimes gets detected by bios but not by os or vice versa. sometimes by both also.

I recommend getting a true-rated PSU from a reputable manufacturer. I've seen many generic psu's (esp. those that came w/ the casing) that starts becoming flakey just less than a year of use. Some symptoms include hard drives disappearing, command timeouts (check for atapi errors in your Windows log) or unable to read from DVDs.

Also, please check if you have enough wattage: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

i will get one soon once i have proven that it really is the psu. is it because its not giving enough power? i used that psu calculator and it gave me around 250 watts. should a 400 watts true-rated psu be enough?
