The famous Japanese tech company, Epson, has recently unveiled its head-mounted display dubbed Moverio. The firm claims that this is the world's first see-through video eyewear.
When the user puts the glass on they can see images shown on a background of the real world. The invention could be really useful for those who wait in train stations or airports.
The device features two TFT LCD 0.52-inch displays, both of which run at a resolution of 960×540 pixels, and a pair of earphones. It can simulate an image with a maximum size of 320 inches, which can be viewed from a distance of 20 meters (65.6 ft).
The Moverio supports such video files as MPEG-4/MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 and allows the user to watch video content in both 2D and 3D (side by side). In addition, the gadget can play AAC and MP3 audio files.
It is worth mentioning that Epson's new device is powered by Android 2.2. It also provides Wi-Fi connectivity, which allows users to access YouTube and other websites. Despite the fact that there's no Android Market onboard, users will still be able to benefit from a number of basic pre-loaded apps like a gallery, music player, and web browser.
The eyewear comes with a wired control box with a touchpad that makes it possible for users to control the unit's features. Besides, Moverio is fitted with 1GB of built-in memory, a micro SD slot, volume control, 2D/3D switch button and a headphone out jack.
The built-in lithium polymer battery allows the device to work up to six hours on a single charge. So far the device will only be available on the Japanese market that it will hit on November 25th, wearing a price tag of JPY60,000 ($772).
