Default Corsair launches Marvell based Performance Pro line of SSDs

Corsair launches Marvell based Performance Pro line of SSDs by VR-Zone.com

We're not sure how many different SSD configurations we need, but Corsair has announced its Performance Pro series based on Marvell's controller. Despite the name, the Performance Pro series won't be competing with the SandForce based Force series of SSDs from Corsair when it comes to raw benchmark numbers, but with all the SandForce related firmware issues, some users are looking for alternatives and this is where the Performance Pro series seem to fit in.

Corsair is currently only offering a 128 and a 256GB version of the Performance Pro series and sadly the performance isn't what we'd call mind blowing with the 128GB SKU being rated at 500MB/s for sequential reads and 340MB/s for sequential writes. The 256GB SKU betters these numbers with sequential read speeds of up to 515MB/s and write speeds of up to 440MB/s, but the write performance still falls short of the 500MB/s+ we're seeing from SandForce based SSDs. This is despite the fact that Corsair is using what it calls "Supercharged Synchronous NAND" in both drives.

What's worse is that the Performance Pro series is expensive with a list price of US$279.99 (S$365) for the 128GB model and an eye watering US$529.99 (S$685) for the 256GB model. This should be compared to a list price of US$264.99 for the 120GB Force Series GT and US$539.99 for the 240GB version, both of which offer vastly superior performance, at least on paper. We're scratching our heads here a little bit, especially as Crucial's m4 SSDs can be had for US$209.99 for 128GB and US$410.99 for 256GB, both of which should offer comparable performance, yet somehow ends up being a lot cheaper. We really can't follow Corsair's pricing on the Performance Pro series, as both models seem quite overpriced if we're simply looking at the specifications, but we'd have to put a drive through its paces before we'd draw any final judgement.

    Well compared sa Crucial m4:

    128GB:
Sustained Sequential Read: Up to 500 MB/s (SATA 6Gb/s)
Sustained Sequential Write: Up to 175 MB/s (SATA 6Gb/s)

    256GB:
Sustained Sequential Read: Up to 500 MB/s (SATA 6Gb/s)
Sustained Sequential Write: Up to 260 MB/s (SATA 6Gb/s)

Halos 2x ang Write speed ng Corsair Marvell-based SSD compared to Crucial m4s...probably why mas mahal...
