MS outlook 2003 problem. need help.

this is what happened to my outlook when i tried to set it up with my Gmail account...after nuking my PC

it says: "your miscrosoft exchange server is unavailble"
unsa man akong nabuhat ani nanung in ani mani?? before kay OK raman unta to. unsa maning exchange server? help.

mao ni siya nag pic ay. inig double click nako mao niy mo appear.

If you like to setup a gmail account, try ang mozilla thunderbird http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/. Sadly, wala pa ni siya support sa microsoft exchange. If you use Linux OS, try ang evolution which has a support on microsoft exchange server.

Correct me if im wrong, ang outlook is good only for microsoft exchange.

Kanindot pa sa mozilla thunderbird kay free and kung magbuang imong mail client, dali ra kaayo pag-reinstall like sa microsoft outlook na reinstall gyud ang imong OS.

i dont think kinahanglan ka mo install sa OS. ang office ra imong e install. anyway, nabuang akong outlook2003 nya hantod karon wala pako kabaw unsaon ni. mag outlook express nalang ko...

IMO, basin tungod ni sa genuine OS unya ang office 2003 nako kay *ahemmmm* dili.

updates on this thread. ni shift ko og thunderbird. kay outlook express got some problems of its own. although it retrieves emails just fine.

Why would you use MS Exchange Server when you're setting up a Gmail account (which obviously uses a HTTP server) on MS Outlook? Unless you have an email account which utilizes a POP server or if you're on a BIG network with an IT administrator that has set up MS Exchange Server, then can you set up an email account on Outlook. Just my 2 cents.

This is just a case of a misconfigured email account.
Choose POP3 as your server type and not Microsoft Exchange.

You can use POP3 to access your gmail account but you have to enable the feature. yes it's free.

POP3 server: pop.gmail.com Port: 995
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com Port: 465 (use SMTP authentication)

username: your_username_here@gmail.com

I've googled the set up for Outlook 2k3 and yeah, this guy's post is correct. Gmail's incoming mail server is not HTTP, contrary to my previous post. It uses POP3. I tried it this morning and it worked. Though the usual polling issue for MSN mail clients still happens (looping username and password screens), I was able to receive my test mail in my Gmail webmail inbox.
