Default Organize for Disaster Preparedness : Train Our Dogs for Search, Rescue & Survival

    Hi,

In the light of increasing frequency of natural and man-made calamities, I suggest we train our dogs for search, rescue and survival. If anyone wants to help organize this initiative please post in this thread. One aim is to provide "AFFORDABLE" training to as many dogs as possible, regardless of breed (even askals will be included).

Just imagine how many lives can be saved in situations such as a major earthquake striking your community, if every sitio or barangay has at least 20 search and rescue dogs. I don't think it is impossible to achieve and even surpass this number - we have dogs in every corner and neighborhood in the Philippines - if only we have affordable and accessible dog trainings.

Another idea I want to propose is that instead of having our dogs trained, we owners have ourselves trained as "dog trainers". This way, we can train our own dogs and also train other dog owners on how they can train their own dogs....yes it's a sort of echo training! We can extend our knowledge on dog training in our very own barangays for free....perhaps also we can insert "responsible dog ownership" into the trainings we will conduct.

    what do you think?

@BeastMaster, thanks for the support bro.

@mudskipper77, I have no concrete idea bro about what's affordable...perhaps free if possible. the first thing really is to get organized and then we can discuss the possibilities, especially the logistical concerns. things to consider should be availability of the members as most are working or at school. let's see how this thread develops. i would suggest we gather 10 committed individuals first then we meet for the first time. What do you think?

Hi bro, thanks for the support. Okay ra si Duke but medyo dugay na wala mi naka walk kay medyo busy jud... hopefully this coming Christmas vacation maka walk na pud mi. But am currently studying ways to train him on my own kay can't afford ko sa training fee. that's why naka huna-huna pud ko basin we can also help other dog owners if we organize. nindot baya jud if our dogs can do search and rescue...especially these days na frequent na ang mga earthquakes and tsunamis. these things sound remote but they do happen.

i will pm you my contact.

TrueLab: Count me in, when will we start? hehehe ... a lot of responsible dog owners would love to have these kinds of training for their dogs, it's just that the main concern is the cost of the training which some find expensive including me ... hope we could find dog trainers who know the value of Volunteerism, to share their expertise and to impart their knowledge on dog training...let's create a committee and let's organize now!!
