Yes, performance gain is very good in terms of swapping and loading times. Your games will run a lot less choppier due to having more system memory.. it runs more smooth.. but if your after frame rates the 2gb wont give that much of a boost.

even if at 2 gig ram, windows tends to still use the harddisk for swap files (even if it hasnt used the entire 2g ram)

so if you do get 2 gig of ram, you should do minor tweaks in the registry optimizes windows to utilize efficiently your 2Gig ram.

Thats already been fixed under windows XP, its not windows forcing the program to use page files, but the program it self is designed to use page files even if your running on a 16GB system.

well, i did the fix anyway to my xp machine, and my observations in task manager, it did significantly improve, especially in most 3drender apps and stuff.

OT: how can apps force use of page files? they run in 32 bit protected mode? apps dont care what kind of memory windows throws at them, they use whatever.

I agree, it would boost your loading time and less choppier displays like stuttering in games will be minimized. But don't expect a big boost on frames performance. It is always your processor and gpu will matter when it comes to frames performance with the help of a larger RAM of course. RAM is also important, coz no matter how fast is your proc and GPU but you lack the necessary memory, then it will no good as well.

By priority, it should always be your processor, gpu then system memory (RAM). It should be balance as well, coz no matter how fast your proc but you only has lesser power of gpu and lots of system memory, and vice versa, it will be a waste as well. But sometimes we put a very powerful proc with just a lesser gpu, but our purpose is to upgrade our gpu to a better one in very near future. It just how we plan our system to be better.

    as cool as ice...

try using CACHEMAN from www.outertech.com. its a memory manager. let it do the swapping for you.
