Guide To Building A Gaming Rig For Battlefield 3 by VR-Zone.com

There has been literally too many uninformed gues-timations being thrown around in forums everywhere about this topic. We're less than 24 hours away from the BF3 beta and here are the configurations we came up with for different tiers of gamers.

    Our Performance Goal in Multiplayer:
    60-100fps average.

Can any system run the game in 1080p Ultra:
Sure! It depends really on whether you want to see a 3fps slideshow or be dominating on the battlefield (we consider 60-100fps average an acceptable framerate)

I'm on a tight budget but I don't want to be handicapped by my equipment: (same as the advertised recommended system requirements)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad or AMD Phenom X6 @ 2.8Ghz
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon 6850 or Nvidia Geforce GTX560

I want to dominate on the battlefield but want to spend my money wisely and play in 1080p low:
Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K (easily overclockable to 4.5Ghz++)
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon 6950 (get the Sapphire 6950 Toxic edition) or Nvidia GTX570

I have a huge sausage and must play smoothly in 1080p high:
Processor: Intel 980X with ASUS Rampage III Extreme
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon 6990 or Nvidia GTX590 or 2x Radeon 6970 or 2x GTX580

What if i have unlimited money to spend and i must play in ultra/4k resolutions/eyefinity/stereo 3d/want to contribute to global warming:
    Processor: EVGA W555 SR-2 with 2 x Xeon X5680 @ 4.6Ghz
Graphics Card: 2 x AMD Radeon 6990 in Quadfire or 2 x Nvidia GTX 590 sli or 2 x ASUS MARS II

I have 0 friends / Not going to play online: (same as the advertised minimum system requirements)
Processor: 2 GHz Dual Core (Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ or Althon X2 2.7 GHz)
Graphics Card (AMD): DirectX 10.1 compatible with 512 MB RAM (ATI RADEON 3000, 4000, 5000 OR 6000 series, with ATI RADEON 3870 or higher performance)
Graphics Card (NVIDIA): DirectX 10.0 compatible with 512 MB RAM (NVIDIA GEFORCE 8, 9, 200, 300, 400 OR 500 series with NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 GT or higher performance)

Remember to run Linpack on your CPUs and Furmark on your GPUs to test for stability/cooling efficiency at full load. You wouldn't want to crash out during a personal best high scoring multiplayer session.
