Other places to save in other than banks

I've been meaning to ask here kag wala akong idea kung saan ako magstart. I want to save for the future via long-term savings and majority ng suggestions ng friends ko is time deposit. I'm not so sure kung yan ang gusto ko since mababa ang interest and may mga terms pag bangko eh. If you have suggestions, please let me know

ok. this is how it goes. somebody presells property. from talks/presentations of the selling broker/real estate developer, it seems that if you buy, pay down payment, and monthly, you can sell this later and get a return that is more than reasonable. actually, you are selling your right since you have not physically fully paid for the unit. when you sell your right (contract) you actually gain as the price would have increased during the building phase. The down payment is not that big and you pay a small monthly.

my concerns, which need a lot of study:
location- will the place be attractive, eventually? a good location will make selling so much easier.
cost: Note that the cost of new units are cheaper than existing ones? Don't believe everything the broker says that property (not the land) will always appreciate. tiles, electricals, plumbing stuff etc can now be cheaply imported from you know where.
Dues and expenses: condominium dues and other maintenance expenses which you pay once the property is done.

disclosure: I am a real estate broker. BUT, I am not selling anything. I haven't sold a single property since 1989. I use my license in buying.
