    Question Photography software for Linux

    Hello sa tanan.

Ever since the crackdown on pirated Microsoft software started mapugos ko balik gamit og Unix-based OS. Started with Red Hat and now using Ubuntu. Akong pinaka-dako nga adjustment was not being able to use Adobe products like PS and Illustrator. Naay alternatives for Linux like Gimp and Inkscape but if you're like me who started using Adobe software since the earlier versions (I started sa version 4, katong naay kabayo sa splash screen, hehe) then you know unsa kalisod mag-transition to a new application.

Anyway, akong ishare lang unta dri akong mga gigamit karon nga photography applications for Linux. I'm hoping nga ang uban Linux users sad diha maka-share sa ilang experiences and maka-tudlo sa uban.

Post your Linux distro, applications used for particular tasks (panorama, global edits, image viewer, HDR, etc.) and if possible gamay nga tips sa paggamit nila as well as your personal reviews on each software.

If mag-post mo screenshot please keep at at 500px at its longest side. Nindot sad if maka-post mo sample output for each software, hehe.

**mods please delete if sayop nga section ni, thanks.

    sugdan nako...

akong distro is Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx). Nakatry na ko sa latest version, ang 11, but wala ko ganahi sa changes so nag rollback ko.

    Global editing
Darktable 0.9.2 (news | darktable) - mao ni best (for me) alternative sa Lightroom for Linux users. Daghan siya features and plugins, though if naanad ka LR mangita jud ka sa uban LR features like selective masking. Medyo buggy lang siya, mo crash if sunod2 ang commands nimo (though basin tungod kay gamay ra akong physical RAM).

    Image Viewer
Geeqie (availabel sa repo) – not really the best, though naanad na lang ko so mao akong gamit. Still haven't found anything like XnView...

    HDR
Luminance HDR 2.1.0 (Luminance HDR) - sa first nako gamit wa ko ganahi kay naanad ko sa Photomatix, haha. But later on sige ko explore sa iyang available settings nakita nako nga mas daghan siya choices. Been using it since January and until now wa pa jud nako na explore tanan posible nga timplada.

    Panorama
Hugin Panorama Creator 2009.2.0.4461 (available sa repo) – can't really make a review kay this is the first panorama application akong nagamit. So far though satisfied ra ko sa iyang output.

unya na lang ko post sample output and screenshots, hehe.

Came across Dream Studio just last week, another Ubuntu derivative that uses a low-latency kernel, a working JACK and has a full suite of applications for audio/video editing, graphics and photo editing. So far it has been super stable and fast.

For Photo Editing it has Luminance, GIMP, Shotwell, Hugin, Darktable. Nindot iyang GIMP kay completo na sa plugins.

Here are some screenies of the apps menu/gimp:
