For Seinen: Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Berserk, Aoi Bungaku, Now and Then, Here and There, Monster, Top wo Nerae

For slice of Life: Hidamari Sketch, Aria, Kamichu, Ichigo Mashimaro, Manabi, Azumanga, Sketchbook

EDIT: I forgot you are looking for NEW anime. If you are referring to the latest this season, I'm sorry I can't help you with that. Majority of the 'latest' anime I've seen are from at least 1 or 2 years ago.

I meant new as in something i haven't seen yet....I'm into different anime depending on my mood...right now, i'm looking for school life type of anime that's NOT hentai....don't really like the whole bouncing boobs and showing of panties thing......or maybe something historical but has to have lots of action but also a little comedy....preferably those with stronger female characters...kinda sick of seeing the cute & ditsy ones or the damsel in distress who keeps on crying all the time....

All titles listed below have strong female characters and no ecchi:

School life setting:
Cross Game
- School life & baseball. Has drama-rom-com elements. You already have Major in your list, so I presume you wouldn’t mind another baseball anime. By all means, watch this if you still haven’t. One of the most touching stories ever.

Busou Renkin
- tsundere Tokiko is cute :3

Kaze no Stigma
- similar to Shakugan no Shana.

Kimi ni Todoke
- Sawako. ‘nuff said.

FLCL
- Haruko is cool

Angel Beats
- haven’t seen this yet but I heard it’s good. Yuri is said to be a Haruhi clone so it goes without saying she’s also a strong female character.

Can’t think of any title that has a strong female character in real-world history setting, but these titles have their own historical setting:

Chrno Crusade
- Popular anime. I think you know what this is about. Rosette will always be one of the early badass girls with guns.

Kamikaze Tsukikage Ran
- Not a popular anime. female wandering samurai that has a Kung Fu sidekick who provides comic relief. A lot of well animated sword fight scenes here. By well animated, I mean realistic sword movements & techniques. There are some recycled frames though. Their duo reminds me of Kenshin and Misao when they were traveling together at the start of the Shishio Arc.

Pumpkin Scissors
- another not so popular anime. Historical in a sense that it has a European war setting. Unlike the titles mentioned above, Alice does not take the spot light but can still be considered as a strong female main character.

Doesn’t fall in either school life or historical, but these titles I mentioned before also has strong female characters: Revolutionary Girl Utena, Top wo Nerae, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (not ecchi, Yoko is just sexy ) Additional: Madlax, Black Lagoon, Noir, ROD,YUA, Kino no Tabi, Vandread..

If you are looking for a good school life anime which is not ecchi, you should try titles under the slice of life genre. Just to name a few: Hidamari, Kamichu, Hyakko, Manabi, Sketchbook, Ichigo Mashimaro, Taishou Yakyuu Musume...
