    Pacquiao Statue in Baywalk!
Holy crap! I can’t believe it! What I’ve always been afraid of is finally currently being worked on. I don’t know why the thought even made its way into Manila Mayor Lito Atienza’s head. The mayor’s habit of wearing flowery polos is one thing; “immortalizing Manny Pacquiao’s contribution to Philippine sports” by putting up a Pacquiao statue along Baywalk is another! Oh, no! I am never ever going to Baywalk again. It’s a sacred place for me because I always go there whenever I feel the need to be alone and overemotional. I’ve received lots of indecent offers from DOMs and been asked out by strangers. I have been a witness to a lot of inane situations there, but nevertheless it’s still my haven whenever I’m problematic. I love the salty (not to mention unpleasing) scent of the sea and the festive atmosphere of the place.

I repeat, holy crap! I’d rather see a Lea Salonga’s statue in every street than see a Pacquiao statue anywhere. Oh, c’mon! What the hell’s going on in the Filipinos’ minds? Does winning a boxing match enough for someone the likes of Pacquiao to achieve national hero status? Is it even fair to forget the other athletes who have offered their lives to make us proud and instead focus on this one monkey who throws mean punches every now and then? Boxing is a violent sport, a bloody one, and we’re actually hailing Pacquiao for sharing the instinct serial killers posses.

Yes, another ****man blog entry. I hate him, but I suppose you all know that already. I know I shouldn’t even waste my time (and precious MySQL database space) on him, but heaven help me, I just have to rant. And rant. And rant some more.

.. hehehe. in some ways i agree with her. Manny is over-hyped. Lito's move is a political one since he wants Manny to be his running mate. Hahayz, filipinos these days. It's nice she mentioned Leah Salonga, that chick won the most prestigious award in her craft but filipinos never embraced her like what they're doing with Manny. And talking about sports, Bata should be the one to be immortalized.

i think the pacman is only the only true filipino that has achieved a superstar status in the in the world. lea salonga may have won a prestigious title but that didnt brought her to a superstar status, not even close. very few people are inclined watching those shows. efren bata may have won world titles in billards but few are paying attention to this game and its arguable of who is the best in that game. i also havent heard of a filipino musician who became a superstar in the us. billy joe crawford or appledap may be as stars but still they're not that big. the pacman has achieved greatness in a very popular sport and its very possible that he will achieve an all time great status that boxers like muhammad ali, joe louis, sugar ray leonard, iron mike, lennox lewis has achieved.

imo, pacman deserves the honors given to him. he's a national treasure thats why im in favor of putting a statue of the pacman because it will be a good source of inspiration for the people. the only problem is the timing, coz the politicians are using it for their advantage.

same goes to boxing and mixed martial arts competions. it may be cruel but its not that deadly. very few boxers die in the ring, less than 1%. its a natural instinct for men to prove superiority thru force.

martial arts are ok for me. it's just that boxing involves hitting the head and that's just cruel and very very bad for the brain! my greatgrandfather was a boxer. he didnt die in the ring but an opponenent did. in his old age he was demented. we don't get surprised seeing old boxers showing symptoms of brain injuries, do we.

i see it as millions of years of male conditioning (being the caveman and hunter and all). i just hope that the male competitive energies be channeled through MORE HUMANE activities/pursuits.
