Default "World's thinnest tablet PC" shows up in China, calls itself the EKing

"World's thinnest tablet PC" shows up in China, calls itself the EKing by VR-Zone.com

Thought that Apple's iPad 2 and Samsung's new Galaxy Tabs are the thinnest tablets to exist in the market today? Well, you might want to think again, especially if the latest announcement made by a certain tablet OEM is of any indication. Apparently, a Chinese manufacturer known as Shenzhen Guangxuntong Communication Technology has developed what it claims to be the "world's thinnest tablet PC', and it comes in the form of its new EKing T9 device.

More often than not, major OEMs often try to outdo the competition by claiming that their products are the best in the world where certain aspects are concerned. However, when such a claim is made by an unheard-of Chinese OEM, it goes without saying that heads are definitely going to turn, if only because most people will be interested in finding out how such an OEM is able to pull something off before the big players could do so. And this is apparently the case with Shenzhen Guangxuntong Communication Technology's new tablet device, the EKing T9, which has been touted to be the "world's thinnest tablet PC".

According to a report published by M.I.C Digi, the EKing T9 sports a 9.7-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display, while its processing power is provided by Intel's Z670 processor which is clocked at 1.5GHz. In addition, M.I.C Digi claims that the EKing T9 tablet will also feature 2GB of memory, along with both front and rear-facing cameras.

In addition, Shenzhen Guangxuntong Communication Technology has also claimed that the EKing T9 tablet is compatible with up to five different operating systems, namely Windows 7, Windows 8, Android, Meego and even Ubuntu.

While we have no doubt that the EKing T9's x86-based nature will allow users to install and run the aforementioned operating systems, we could not help but find Shenzhen Guangxuntong Communication Technology's claims of the tablet being compatible with Windows 8 a little suspect. For one, the screenshot of what appears to be a "Windows 8" installation on the EKing T9 seems to resemble a photoshop-ed version of the Windows Phone 7 home screen that has been pasted onto the device. That, along with the fact that Windows 8 is still in the process of being developed, has cast some doubt on the status of "Windows 8" support on the EKing T9.

More interestingly, Shenzhen Guangxuntong Communication Technology has yet to release any details about the EKing T9's size and dimensions, in spite of the fact that the company has touted the tablet to be the "world's thinnest", so you might want to take such claims with a huge helping of salt.

No information about the EKing T9's launch date and pricing has been revealed at this point of time.
