we're going on a road trip from davao city all the way to cagayan de oro
will be using a private car

use the "buda -> bukidnon -> cagayan" route <- shortest route... i think its more or less 350 kms. 5-7 hours drive time depending on speed and stops

road condition is fine (concrete/asphalt) but there is still a portion in bukidnon that is under construction... but its just a small portion of the trip (probably 15-30 minutes of rough road)

there are lots of good places to stop along buda and bukidnon... and lots of sceneries too.

there are no road hazards except maybe if there's heavy downpour of rain... bukidnon's mountainous areas are prone to landslides.

things to help ease your trip... hmm maybe bring sweatshirts and jackets because it can be very cold in buda (its also called "little baguio")... bring the basics... food, drinks, extra clothing, be sure your car is in very good condition with all the necessary tools and spare tire etc etc.

via BUDA is the shortest. Scenery is fantastic. Many options to stop and see. Bring thick clothing, food and other basics. There are sections that has switchbacks so just drive slow, defensive, and be careful.

err...do we need to bring thick clothing even if we're just passing thru the mountanous area? I'm assuming we're passing a mountainous area because of the "Little Baguio" nickname.

Wait a minute...how many percent of the route is located in a high altitude or mountainous area?

hmm probably more than 50% of the trip... buda is already mountainous and most parts of bukidnon... i remember my last road trip from cagayan to davao, my engine temp went down as if my engine was'nt running at all that's how cold it could get.
