Ligot condos, assets now frozen ? Sandiganbayan
MANILA, Philippines - Several condominiums and real properties registered under the name of former military comptroller Jacinto Ligot and his family are now frozen, Sandiganbayan Sheriff V Romulo Barrozo said.
In his report to the fourth division of the Sandiganbayan, Barrozo said notices of levy have been attached to the units under Ligot's name and that of his brother-in-law, Edgardo Yambao.
The assets are estimated to be worth P50 million.
Some of the units are: Burgundy Plaza on Katipunan Road, Quezon City in the name of Yambao; a unit at Essensa East Forbes Tower in Taguig City reportedly in the name of Ligot’s wife, Erlinda; and one in Building MC-14 at the Pamayanang Diego Silang also in Taguig constructed by the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA).
The Register of Deeds of Makati, on the other hand, said a notice of levy could not be done on a condominium unit in Paseo Parkview Tower 2. The property is registered under the name of Paulo Ligot, the former comptroller’s son.
Barrozo stressed the prosecution can still attach a notice of lis pendens to the asset. This means a suit is pending before the courts.
Also included in Barrozo’s report are real estate properties and farmlands in Tanay, Rizal and Muntinlupa City.
Barrozo also reported that various Ligot accounts containing the total amount of P2,910,335.95 have also been placed on hold.
The government is seeking to recover a total of P135,280,822.11 in alleged ill-gotten wealth.
