The Department of Education’s (DepEd) proposed curriculum where the 10-year basic education from elementary to secondary would be increased to 12 years will have its preliminary start in the kindergarten this school year’s opening of classes.
DepEd Communications Unit head Kenneth Tirado informed radio and television audience of “Talking Points” over Radyo ng Bayan (DZRB) simulcast on NBN 4 that the formal start of the curriculum, dubbed as K+12 will be in Grade 1 and in First Year in June 2012 for the SY 2012-2013.
Tirado said the bill on this DepEd’s program is already on third reading in Congress and is expected to be enacted into law before the school opening in June, this year.
He said DepEd’s regional offices have already conducted consultative meetings with parents to explain and clarify things about the proposed curriculum.
He explained that, although the students will have to finish elementary and secondary education in 12 years, they could by then get employed already as technical courses are integrated in the curriculum.
In view of this, additional classrooms would be built in 2016, through the coordination with provincial, municipal and barangay governments, since the program will be in full implementation on 2016.
“A certain barangay (village) can have its own school for its constituents,” the DepEd official said.
Tirado discussed also the Summer Program Employment for Students (SPES), a Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) program, which is coordinated by DepEd.
The SPES aims to help students, 15-25 years old, especially the poor ones to earn for themselves their tuition fees for the next school year.
“Their employment will last for 40 days and they would earn not lower than the minimum wage. At the same time, 70% will come from the establishment where they work while 30% will be granted by DOLE.

Guys..there is a lot of negative feedback regarding the proposed curriculum for elementary and secondary students..what are your thoughts about this?..will this be good for the incoming generation or is it gonna make things worse than what they are now?..
Discuss!!

hehehehe..
sa ako lng ha..i think it's main advantage is equipped na ang students with a set of skills after graduating in high school..with this set of skills they can already start work and earn an income for college..i think this is great news for students out there whose parents would not be able to afford to send them to college..wouldn't you agree guys?..
