Printer Cartridge Error

I have an HP PSC 1315 printer which suddenly registered a "check print cartridge" error on its panel board. The exact board lights are:

Indicator Light Status
On/Resume Light is on (green) and steady
Check Print Cartridge Light is on (orange) and blinking
Copies Light is on (green) and steady but with a big "E" (for error)
Size Light is on (green) and steady
Paper Type Light is on (green) and steady

I have tried cleaning the cartridge contact points but wala effect. Funny thing is when I turn on the printer, it prints a test page perfectly (so there is ink and the printer can print properly). However I cannot proceed from there because when I try to print anything from the computer, the printer does not respond, I guess because it is in an error condition. If I put in the old cartridge, the error condition is gone. If I try to print with the old cartridge, the printer seems to respond well and goes through the motion of printing but siempre wala output kay wala man ink. Does this confirm that the cartridge is defective? Just want to make sure before I invest in a new ink cartridge unya basin masayang. Salamat daan mga responders.

Nope not refill ink. Genuine HP tanan nako gamit. Anyone have an idea what's wrong?

same ta problem bro.. ako gibuhat nipalit kog lain na brandnew printer.

Factory defect ink cartridge. It could be the printhead is damaged.

@PR0CESS0R thanks for your reply. Are you saying that it is one of two different possibilities? So even if I buy a new cartridge basin di gihapon maayo if printhead ang daut? Or is the printhead part of the cartridge? Sorry if I sound ignorant. Am not well versed regarding printers.

for making sure bring your printer into service center for surely purposes bcn mo samot lng ka guba kng mag cge testing2x...

TS: better replace it if naa pay warranty. lisod na kaayo na if print head ang guba. ignon ra ka sa mga technician na better buy a new printer than replacing another print head. because mahal na nga pyesa.
