ako hapit ko ma acl a few years back... mao ni ang reason naka undang ko ug basket... basta knee kuyaw gyud... karon dagan nalang ko. kay wala man kaayoy lateral movements compared to basketball
An ACL tear is most often a sports-related injury. ACL tears can also occur during rough play, mover vehicle collisions, falls, and work-related injuries. About 80% of sports-related ACL tears are "non-contact" injuries. This means that the injury occurs without the contact of another athlete, such as a tackle in football. Most often ACL tears occur when pivoting or landing from a jump. The knee gives-out from under the athlete when the ACL is torn.
Female athletes are known to have a higher risk of injuring their anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, while participating in competitive sports. Unfortunately, understanding why women are more prone to ACL injury is unclear.
Post surgical rehab is recommended
If surgery is performed it is usually several weeks after the injury occurs to allow inflammation to subside. The ACL is not actually repaired, but reconstructed. The ACL is removed and reconstructed from a grafting a segment of a large tendon or ligament. As in any surgery, there are risks such as blood clots and infection.
Crutches are usually used for a couple of weeks following the surgery. Full recovery may take several months and varies from patient to patient. High-impact activities must be avoided until the knee has recovered sufficiently. Normal activities can be resumed before high-impact activities. Low-impact activities such as swimming help strengthen the muscles that support the knee joint (to take some load off the ligaments) without straining the joint.
