convert .mp4 to .avi file format... need help

I am not sure if this is the right category that I will post this thread... Just need assistance.

I converted a movie which is .mp4 file format to .avi file and saved it in USB. I tried playing it on my DVD player using usb but it will not work, an error occured " codec not supported ". I checked the properties of my converted files, it was .avi, I also check the capability of my dvd player, its a divx certified an basically can play .avi file format. I tried playing another movie which has .avi file using usb and it can play well. I tried playing my converted .avi files to a PC and it will play well. Am I mssing something?

Heres the exact format I selected during converting ( I am using Any Video Converter Pro ):

Profile : customized AVI movie ( *.avi )
Video codec: xvid - since theres no divx on the list
Bitrate: 536 ( Im trying to follow the bitrate computation )
Frame size: 1080 X 720
Frame rate : 24

Audio codec: ac3
Audio bitrate: 320
Sample bitrate:48000

try change ang audio codec to mp3. basin ma ok na..
usually mao mn na ako gamiton if mgplay ko sa dvd thru usb..

bro murag dili na kaya sa dvd player nimo ang 1080 x 720, i check lang murag kutob ra na 480 ang mga dvd player.

try adjust ang resolution. im using xilisoft converter. mka select ka sa xilisoft different avi standards for different media players.

Thanks for all the advise... I tried Total video and lower down the resolution to 720X480 and change the codec to divx, it can play the movie now... But I am confused why was the size almost tripled, from 1.8G .mp4 it goes up to 4.2G .avi. But the .mp4 had better quality compared sa ako gi convert... I did try lowering down the bitrate, it goes down to 2.4G but the quality is really bad, its like a pirated VCD.
