Dual core was the Pentium 4 HT market name for its single core 2 thread processor, Core 2 dou is the new brand name that intel made for its dual core dual thread processor.

Also to add the real dualcore from Intel started with the D series, I think it was some other series that was marketted as a dualcore but via hyper threading IIRC.

Pentium Dual Core = Old Architecture
Core 2 Duo = New Architecture and it's better, faster and power efficient than Pentium Dual Core


comparison based on my experience:

i have a laptop that has a Pentium Dual Core T2130 1.87 GHz CPU with Intel GMA950 GPU = lag when playing full HD movie (1080p)
i repaired a laptop the other week with a Core 2 Duo T2350 1.86 GHz CPU with Intel GMA950 GPU = can play smoothly full HD movie (1080p)

if you are referring intel products dual core is 2 cores mostly is 2mb cache/800fsb mhz while core 2 dou is 2 cores but they have too many cache types 2mb/3mb/4mb and 1066/1333fsb mhz that would be an example...ug naglibog ka go nalang sa core 2 dou processor.

Ang Dual Core kay naay Pentium ug Celeron nga CPU architecture samtang ang Core 2 Duo kay based sa 2nd gerneration sa CORE architecture mas bag-o ni siya nga design kompara sa pentium ug celeron. Kung sa performance comparison lang kay mas better ang Core 2 Series kay sa Pentium Dual Core ug ang Pentium Dual Core kay mas better sa Celeron Dual Core.

main difference is the L2 Cache. Core2duo has bigger L2 cache compared to Pentium Dual core.
