Noob question regarding lens :)

I am just new to photography/camera world, so, i need ur help on this..

i am currently using a nikon kitlens (af-s dx nikkor 18-55mm vr). lens' manual says dat while autofocus is operating, i must not rotate the focus ring...

does it mean that if my lens is switched to Auto, i cannot rotate the focus ring and zoom ring too ( bec. when zoom ring is moved, focus ring moves too)

so, if i want to zoom sumthing, i must switch my lens to Manual

need ur help jud.. so confused.. hehe

you can turn the zoom ring even if your AutoFocus is On.. But do not turn the Focus Ring when your AutoFocus is turned On coz it might break your Autofocusing motor.

let the Camera operate it when in Auto Focus mode... if you want more control, then do the Manual Focus mode...

first set your desired zoom level by rotating the zoom ring, then press the shutter halfway and hold it there para mag autofocus siya. then full press to take the shot.

it is not advisable to turn the focus ring when it is in autofocus mode unless your lens has the feature or capability of manual focus override which is usually present in higher model lenses.

as mentioned by others here, you can safely turn the focusing ring when configured as manual mode setting in the focus switch.
