The use of Automated Poll for the next year’s election will be revealed today. COMELEC chairman said whatever decisions they have come up to, they all base it from the suggestions of the technical committee. He also pointes out that if the elections would have to be automated, then they need to re-scheduled all the deadlines and all other activities related to the coming 2007 national and local elections.

According to him also, they are lacking time, budget and most of all law providing for the weather to use or not the computerized elections.

Automated or not the people will still decide on who they think will stand for them to be the leader. If it’s too late to pass the bill of using this Machine, then we might as well use what we used to do in Voting, we just have to be honest and we should think wisely.

COMELEC assured that even if they are running to implement the partial computerization of the polls as proposed by the congress, the election next year will still be continue. However, they said that if ever there would be a delay or a failure to automate the voting, they could still revert the voting into a manual process and that it does not mean election will have to be postponed too.

I am sure COMELEC will do everything not to postpone the 2007 election.

Six information technology (IT) firms have offered to supply the(Comelec) with new machines for the poll automation in selected areas next year.

According to Jimenez, corporations with the capability to provide the machines for poll automation have until this afternoon to submit the required information before the Comelec.

Although the poll body will also be looking at other technologies, Jimenez said they are more inclined to use "5-in-1" machines, or those capable of carrying out voting, counting, electronic transmission, canvassing and recounting of votes.

They added that the Comelec is also looking at the possibility of getting multiple vendors as long as they could provide a good integration package.
