BUT the one miracle that this cute administration could perform, no sweat, concerns our electricity rate. Just when nobody was looking, our power rates went up again to become the second highest power rate in all of Asia.
And that is, mind you, even without the just-signed law on the value-added tax (VAT) on electricity.
That we have the second highest power rate in these parts, is the obvious proof that something is wrong here.
To explain the increase in our electricity bills, this cute administration has been blaming the increase in world price of fossil fuel, such as oil and coal, which we have to import.
By using the instant "mami" noodles between our ears, we ask ourselves why, if everything is due to world prices of oil, do other countries near us have much lower electricity rates than we do.
If despite having to pay for the same high cost of oil, other countries could keep their rates low, how come we still managed to keep our power rates as the second highest in Asia?
To think, this cute administration is even subsidizing electricity!
Something is wrong. Okay, wrong. It should be, something is terribly wrong. And I think it has something to do with this state-owned monopoly called National Power Corp.
We have been meaning to sell the monster, but up to now, nothing seems to be happening. We just cannot seem do it.
And now that the VAT on electricity is upon us, I don't know we could ever hope to privatize this colossal.
