    Default advice for buying lens

good morning mga master,.ahmm,.mangotana lang unta ku bahin ug lens,.nagplano man gud ku na magpalit ug bag-o nga lens,.mao ni aku mga choices,.

    50mm 1.8
    55-200mm
    55-300mm
10-24 (pero malabo, dugay pa jud)

ang akong gusto shootan kay landscapes, portrait(gamay),.kabalo ku nga wla gyuy universal lens, pero at least good for starter,.

the thing about 50mm is dili autofocus,.(ok ra ba?,.)
ang gnahan sad nku sa 55-200 is iyang range,.(sharp ba ang image?)

55-300, ok ba pud ni siya?icompare sa 55-200,.

by the way, im using d3100 with 18-55mm,.

salamat mga master,.unta matabangan ku ninyo,.^^

i suggest i-consider ang SIGMA 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM.

good for landscape @ 17mm and sharp for portraits @ apordabol price.

suggestion lang ha. but the decision is all yours

    open253.

Lahi gyud ang lens angay para sa portraits ug landscape. Lahi ilang mga ideal focal lengths. Landscapes gani, wide angle, while portraits will start at 50mm to 150mm depende if full frame ka or crop. Your nikkor 18-55 lens will do just fine for landscapes. Nindot na kaayo ni ug kuha just shoot at around f16 and sharp na It will also do fine na with portraits basta mo tira lang ka at 55mm. Shoot ka at around f5.6 and keep your subject far from your background. Pero ang uso karon gud kay bokeh2x naman basta portraits, so better gyud if you get a portrait lens like a prime lens

So portraits nalang ang wala nimo na cover. As you've said nga ang 50mm dili mo focus, I'm assuming you meant the cheap one right? Kay kining classic 50mm ninyo nikon users, mo auto focus mani with the higher nikon models pero dili sa mga entry like what you have. Ang imo lang camera ang naay problema ani. Ambot ba pud ngano gi ingon ani sa nikon. Nag tipid na gani ang user on a cheaper body, papaliton man sad ug gma af-s nga lens. So you need to buy the more expensive version, the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G lens. Mga nikkor lens ra pud ni akong gi recommend ha. Naa sad mga bintaha nga 3rd party alternatives pero lahi ra gyud ang Nikon mo himo ug lens. If abot pa sa kaya, get only nikon lens for your nikon camera.

I let go of my 18-200, 28-135, 10-20, 35-70. Now it's me and my 18-55 against the world

ayaw gyud tawn na ibaligya ang nikkor nga kit lens. ok pa tawn kaayo na. get the 50mm prime I mentioned above. with your kit lens and a 50 prime, covered na imong portraits and landscapes. as genghis mentioned, you rarely need a telephoto. wide to standard ra gyud na kasagaran sa imong shots. develop your skills with these lens and when the "real" need for a telephoto comes, then get one. ayaw kompyansa anang 50mm f1.8 nga nikkor. that's near 85mm focal length na if used with your camera and hait kaayo na ug kuha maka samad na gud, bokehlicious pa gyud!

agree jud ko ani. my line up used to be like this:

    1) 18-55
    2) 55-250

    Later on, I got a 50mm and sold the 55-250 for a 28-70.

Then later on, gi angkon sa ako uyab ang 18-55 and 50mm.

Nya krn 28-70 nlng tawn ang naa nko.

Pero gamit jud ang 18-55 ug ang 50mm nga line up. Promise.

And third party lenses are no match for Nikkor lenses.

Naa naman kay lens, make use of it, it already have the focal length that you need for landscape and portraiture.
Daghan kang mahimo ana nga lens, I suggest you focus more on what you can do with what you already have and not on what you can buy from the store. Learning photography is more on training your eye to see photographically (technically with good composition). That is why there is what we call a kit lens for starters to start right away. Make use of what you already have.

If you want to capture from a distance from your subject, the 55-200 is a good complement for the 18-55.
You can't go wrong with the Nikon brand and even with their consumer lenses.
