TWO more teams decided to join the soon-to-be launched Cebu Basketball Association (CBA), which is set to open by the end of this month.
CBA commissioner Boy Murillo told Sun.Star Cebu two more teams have joined the opening conference, raising the initial number to eight teams waging war for the P100,000 top prize.
“Dunay duha pa ka team nga ni-apil. So karon 10 teams na ang tournament nato,” stressed Murillo.
Shangri-La Hotel in Lapu-Lapu City and Naga City will join the first commercial developmental tournament since the Cebu Basketball Federation (CBF) folded up in 2004.
Shangri-La and Naga City joined Fortuna Hotel, Ave Maria Sanctuary Park, Asian College of Technology Cyber Knights, Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) Skyblazers, Gemmary Pawnshop, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City and Talisay City.
But aside from Ave Maria and SCSIT, the other teams are in the process of building and hiring players for their line-up.
However, Murillo assured all teams will be on an equal footing at the start of the tournament.
This Thursday, the teams will have a meeting for finalization of their participation.
“Kana nga team meeting ato na gyud mahibaw-an kon kinsa na gyud ang mo-commit. Kay ang gusto ni Yayoy (CBA founder Raul Alcoseba) nga maklaro na tanan kay aron makasugod na ta og plano sa opening ceremony ug sa tournament mismo,” added Murillo.
Expected to join the meeting are Cebu City Councilor Rodrigo Abellanosa, owner of ACT, Talisay City Councilor Rodi Cabigas, Mandaue City Sports Commission chairman Atty. Hidelito Pascual, Hotel Fortuna owner Lorenzo “Chao” Sy, Ave Maria Sanctuary Park owner Raffy Senining and other team representatives.
