Default Researchers: Ancient human remains found in Israel

JERUSALEM (AFP) – Israeli archaeologists have discovered human remains dating from 400,000 years ago, challenging conventional wisdom that Homo sapiens originated in Africa, the leader of excavations in Israel said.

Avi Gopher, of Tel Aviv University's Institute of Archaeology, said testing of stalagmites, stalactites and other material found in a cave east of Tel Aviv indicates that eight teeth uncovered there could be the earliest traces so far of our species.

A Lens On History: Advances in DNA technology have given scientists a new tool with which to study ancient human origins. "I think ancient DNA becomes very powerful" now, says one researcher, "because it gives you a direct look into the past." Here, a photographer shoots a reconstruction of a Neanderthal man at a museum in Germany.

And what they found was as worthy of a supermarket tabloid as a scientific journal. The Neanderthal genetic code was closer to Europeans and Asians than Africans. If we had never mated with them, their genes should have been equally different from all humans.

this is a very good discovery. What they found was set of teeth, which havent been identified if its Neanderthals or the Modern Homo Sapiens. They still need to look for the skull, or other skeletal parts though.

Through out history scientist believe that the origin of humans came from africa and not somewhere else like Israel, if this discovery proves to be true, then this could change "Human evolution"

And why is that? The finding doesn't necessarily say that evolution is wrong. It's like I measured my height inaccurately (because I was wearing shoes) yet you blame the tape measure.

anyway we still need to connect all the dots... before we can say anything conclusive on our evolution.
