i just posted weeks ago how happy i am that my japanese spitz is already well and good after suffering from
hotspots and
parvo.. that was two months ago and had cost us about more than P10k.
recently, he was about to get his last shot of vaccine when i noticed certain changes in his disposition. i told the vet, the vaccine was not administered, and my puppy had his CBC instead. he was again put on medication and was boarded for the night. that cost me about P2730. his diet also needed to be changed to plain boiled pork and rice. the result of the CBC came out with a very low
RBC at only 3 and
platelets at only 34. they suspected
ehrlichiosis and so i had it tested for erhlichiosis to see what stage the disease had already progressed and determine the proper medications to be administered. that dented me for about P925 plus another CBC at P220. again, the result for ehrlichiosis came out at Positive 1 which the doctor explained was the first stage. that had me a little relieved since it was only at the first stage. but then here comes another sad part. his RBC was up but then his platelets dropped lower at 30. this time, the vet suggested for a kidney and liver test to determine if my puppy has problems with those organs. that will cost me another P750 plus i have to board him again for like 4 days since i can't bring him with me (travelling is not advised). as i'm still just a student, i couldn't handle the expenses on my own anymore so i had no choice but to tell my mom. my mom was like 'again?!! your puppy's sick again?" and that had me really worried. though i salute my mom for still being supportive, she did tell me to have my puppy looked at by another vet. i mean, my vets are good and all and i love how they handled my puppy but my mom said it never hurt to have a second opinion.
so what do you think guys?? as christmas is just 2 days away, i can't bring my puppy to another vet sooner than the 26th. i'll be boarding him this afternoon but do you think i should forego with the liver and kidney test for the meantime?? right now, my puppy's still lethargic. he wouldn't eat his dogfood anymore (
integrity hi-pro, as suggested by the breeder) but when i changed it to boiled pork, he finished it rather quickly though he did leave behind the rice. his poop was okay but i did notice that he drinks lots of water and just have this over-all weak disposition. my cousin said it's probably due to all the medication he was taking (5 pills in the morning after breakfast, 4 pills after dinner). if i do have him tested this afternoon, the results will come back tomorrow and if its positive, it's possible that another batch of medications will be needed plus a change in diet.
waaaahhhh!! this is indeed a really sad christmas for me. my budget all went to the medications thus i wasn't not able to buy any christmas presents even for my dad who's rarely able to go home during christmas and this year is one of those few times.. and it's not even enough still but i do want to do everything i can for my puppy. help
