MANILA, Philippines - A mother survived a suicide try and admitted to killing her own 13-day-old baby girl inside a shanty home in Sta. Mesa, Manila, Thursday night.
Police said neighbors found the bloodied body of the mother lying beside the lifeless baby in one of the shanty houses along Panganiban Street in Sta. Mesa around 8 p.m..
Responding policemen rushed the baby and the mother to the De Ocampo Memorial Medical Center (DMMC).
The policeman assigned to the case said that according to witnesses, the mother admitted that she strangled her baby to death before slashing her own wrist with a blade.
"She was left by her husband and she does not have money to support her child," the investigator said, quoting the mother's admission to her brother and neighbor.
