Default Help aperture stuck on my nikon 18-55mm

hey guys i dont know how this happened but the aperture on my 18-55mm nikon kit lens is stuck on f22! even if i try adjusting it with any setting the aperture wont change, i can tell because at any setting, even on auto the photos will be blurry.

And trying to adjust it manually, like zooming in and out, the aperture should at least shrink and grow depending on the zoom, like on my 55-200mm. but the 18-55mm lens doesnt =/

know how i can fix it or a shop where i can get it fixed, i could buy the same lens from someone else but that would be a waste, id at least like to try and fix this one.

    thanks for you help

    have you tried moving this?

that controls the aperture blade.. it can be manually tinkered (w/ care)... see if the stuck can be sorted.

thanks, i didnt see the lever, seems alright, its quick but again if i set the aperture to f3.5 with flash at 1/100 its still blurry, zero sharpness... i set it on auto and its still not sharp, but it cant be the body coz when i switch out to my 55-200mm on auto its perfectly sharp. i try auto because its faster that way.

its only sharp on f22 like f22 is the only correct setting lol

when moving that lever, see that small opening inside the lens if the aperture blades widen the hole.. if it will, it should be okay and the problem might be in your cam body or the lens eletrical contacts.

what kind of blur? shake blur or motion blur? actually, f22 generally can produce non-blur image since the depth of field in effect is very wide (unless affected by shake or motion blur).

shake blur, even when im steady, the blades move fine and snappy and still tight, if its the cam body though, i dont see it happening on my 55-200mm lens, =/ i even had a shoot the other day and it seems pretty sharp.

i thought it was the body, but at any setting i shoot fine with the 55-200mm flash no flash. 4.2 - twenty something.

i cleaned the 18-55mm lens, inside out. could be the contacts though, i did touch it alot, how do i clean that?

since the aperture blades moved fine as well, as you mentioned, when you tinkered the aperture lever pictured above, that is not a mechanical problem.

shake blur using high apertures is normal since youll tend to use slower shutter speed to compensate the proper exposure specially on low light conditions.

electrical contacts are the ones bulging button-like objects along the aperture lever picture above. 10 tiny circular bulges. you can clean those with dry cotton buds. you can use alcohol to moist the buds for more stubborn dirt visible but be sure its only slightly misted (no dripping liquid). alcohol is good solvent for it since it evaporates right away. let it surely dry first before installing it back to the body.
