REP. Tomas Osmeña (Cebu City, south district) also wanted to know how Camarines Sur was able to dethrone Cebu Province to become the country’s top tourist destination. So he went to Camarines Sur early this week and found the answer to his question.
Gov. Luis Raymund Villa-fuerte Jr. of Camarines Sur, Osmeña said, is dedicated to showing off his province.
“...While the governor of Cebu is dedicated to showing off her face, apil pa ang iyang kabayo (and her horse). So, tan-awa ra nalupig gyud ang Cebu Province (That’s how it happened),” Osmeña said.
Sought for comment, Capitol spokesperson Rory Jon Sepul-veda said he has yet to discuss the matter with the governor, who was expected to arrive last night from an official trip to China.
Simple but organized
“Tomas is Tomas, and he’ll always try to rub it off with the governor,” Sepulveda said.
Osmeña said activities in Camarines Sur are simple, but the infrastructure and presentations are organized.
Although there’s not much to see there, he said he admired local officials for their zeal in promoting their province.
“They’re very organized gyud. Ang Cebu Province ego-tripping lang… Camarines Sur overtook Cebu even after the Province spent over a P1 billion for the CICC (Cebu International Convention Center) and after Suroy-Suroy Sugbu nga wa gani CR (without restrooms),” he said.
A recent survey conducted by Conde Nast Traveler, an international magazine on luxury travel, excluded Cebu in its list of top destinations.
Cebu was replaced by Luzon this year (as a crowd-drawer), prompting Capitol officials to want to know the contents of the survey aside from questioning its method and mechanics.
Achievements
Osmeña is all praises for Camarines Sur since the province also cut its malnutrition incidence to 40 percent.
Camarines Sur now belongs to the top 10 richest provinces in the country, from being 34 three years ago.
Osmeña said Cebu Province has nothing to brag about since aside from being dim, he can’t see any major development under the Garcia administration.
“Look at Cebu City, how many call centers do we have? Sa Province, wala gyud (nothing) as in zero! Cebu City has so many-high rise buildings under construction, in the province, wala (nothing)! Ngitngit pa kaayo (And it’s so dark),” Osmeña said.
Earlier, Sepulveda said Cebu Province has more to offer in terms of tourism efforts.
He mentioned the luxury resorts in Mactan Island aside and the beautiful beaches and sceneries in places like Camotes, Malapascua and Bantayan Islands.
