I actually was able to work for both industries.

I used to work at a software development company in IT Park. The pay and benefits were great. We had Japanese classes every other day, flex time, and review classes for the PhilNITS. The work was quite challenging as I was assigned in OS development. With that, we'd easily clock in more than 30 hours of overtime per week. It was alright for awhile, but after a few months, fatigue and stress started to take its toll.

I found out that I wasn't really happy doing this bit for the rest of my life. So, I shifted career and went to food processing.

Right now, I'm currently connected with a Cebu-based food processing company. I'm heading our Sales Support Division wherein I supervise the information and dissemination to stake holders inside and outside of the company throughout the nation. I regularly work with Sales, Marketing, and Events as to promote our products and negotiate with customers. I also work closely with Production, R&D, and Logistics with regards to demand forecast, new product development/improvement, and nation-wide distribution.

TS, it really depends on what your plans for your future are. Mine was more inclined to business. Hence the career shift I made. Being in the IT industry has a great potential in the near-future, so its good to choose wisely where you will attach yourself to an employer. Choose one that has a great potential for your career growth.

for me i rather go with the IT Firm. it is the most challenging one. you are not limited into technologies. every updates ma hibaw an dayun nimo while kung sa processing man gud ka only the existing infrastructure re imo ma hibaw an so limited ra kaau. if you want to start your career as an IT Pro better go with the IT firm.

If you decide to be in IT, office politics aside, your biggest asset is your mind.
You need to be comfortable with analyzing problems, and providing solutions... FAST.
Otherwise, overtime will be your bestfriend, which depending on the person,
can be a good or a bad thing. But mostly, overtime is depressing.

The one thing that you must know about the IT industry is that TECHNOLOGY CHANGES FAST.
In one month or two, new things are ALWAYS coming out. So, IT is equal to continuous learning.
You cannot afford to remain content with what you know now.
You need to move with technology, and acquire new skills or update existing skills.
If you don't have the patience for this, IT is not for you.

if your work is IT related then by all means go to IT firms that could develop your skills in the future otherwise if your practice is in manufacturing like production related responsibilities...for me it depends on what practice you are in because all manufacturing firms has also IT departments the only things manufacturing firm mostly do not sell IT related products specially softwares...
