    Default How to get license

I'm 17 years old and was wondering what I have to go through to get my non professional license. I know I have to get my Student permit first, but can anyone actually tell me in detail the whole process of getting a license. Like does it come before driving school or after?

    From my experience:

    -The Student Permit

Requirements: passport or birth certificate (I used my passport), parental consent form (if you're still under 18, it doesn't need to be too fancy), black ball-pen, money (at least 500 just to be safe).

The Procedure: The process might take an hour or three, so going early is a very good idea (They open at 8, I think). Dress presentably. Basically you get a number, sit and wait, fill in some forms, take your picture and write your signature, pay the cashier and that's it. You now have your student permit! You'll be sitting and waiting for most of the time, so bring something to keep you from getting too bored.

    -The License

Requirements: A student permit for at least 30 days, parental consent form, passport or birth certificate, black ball-pen, 1500 pesos.

The Procedure: This could take your whole day if you go in the morning, or two days if you go in the afternoon. Basically, you do the same thing you did when you get your student permit until the paying part. They'll bring you somewhere you can get a drug test and a medical exam (to see if you're fit enough to drive). Then you'll have a short lecture, followed by a written exam (it felt like a school test), and finally a practical exam (you drive around the block, and it takes about 2 minutes). Your license is ready, or will be the next day.

    Final Words of Wisdom:

If you plan on driving a motorbike, inform the person who is overseeing your practical exam so he can check the right boxes.

The most difficult part for most people, I believe, is the written exam, so get ready to use your memorization skills (the test comes in English and Tagalog versions).

I highly recommend going to a driving school before you apply for a license. If you're certain you'll pass, or if you've been doing a lot of illegal driving (tsk tsk), then don't waste time on a driving school (Most schools are quite mediocre).

Remember, if you want to drive a manual car, you have to take the practical exam in a manual-transmission car.

If you have any more questions, PM me, or post here. Have fun and drive safely!

    Thanks Rom.
One last thing: I just estimated the cost, but there are some variables. If you have your own car, you can save 250 pesos, and if you know a cheap place to get your drug/medical test you can save some more (just make sure they are accredited). But it's always better have money and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
