ani ni cya... the number with the 'mm' is your focal length. for example, 24-70mm f/2.8L. that means that the lens has a variable zoom of 24 to 70mm. ang f/2.8 dha means that throughout that zoom range, ang widest aperture opening nimo is 2.8. The L only indicates that this lens is part of Canon's Luxury series. This is a good lens to buy by the way.

another example. 55-250mm f/4-5.6. Again the 'mm' indicates the zoom range of the lens. what f/4-5.6 means that at 55mm, the widest aperture opening is 4. While at 250mm, the widest opening is at 5.6.

another example nasad. 50mm f/1.8. This is an example of a prime lens. This means that there is no variable zoom. Naa ra jud ka sa 50mm kanunay and the widest aperture opening is f/1.8.

IS is canon's term for anti shake. Stands for Image Stabilization.

Good first lenses in my opinion:
> Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6
> Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8
> Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L
> Canon EF 24-105 f/4L

Also, get a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 Prime. Gamit kaayo nga lens. It's dirt cheap and it's priceless.

aperture kay ang numero nga nag represent sa amount of light nga pasudlon sa imo lens sa imo camera sensor. the wider the aperture, the more light mka sud. also, sa numero, the smaller the number, the wider the aperture. so f/1.8 is wider than f/2.8.

naa d ay cheaper alternative sa 18-200 bai. Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM - P 25,600. nya USM pa jud meaning paspas ang pag focus sa camera and it's done inside so dli mag tuyok2x ang head inig focus. dli lng as wide and as close imo range kaysa sa 18-200 pero in my opnion, worth it ra japon.

mahal jud nang mga f/2.8 bai kay grabe mu bring in ug light. if i had the money, ako first lens would have been the Canon 24-70 f/2.8L. 60k+ pud. waaaaaah! heheheh.
