What does poverty has to do with this? If they can afford to push grade school to Grade 8 using the DepEd funding, well that's good. I don't know why some people will play the "poverty" card.

Arroyo for its implementation last year. In the entire world ONLY the Philippines and Myanmar has the shortest basic education of 10 years while the rest have more. Singapore have 13 years basic education while Japan have 12 years. DepEd is planning about this to be competitive with other countries as Europe will not entertain our professionals in the near future because we lacked the basic education. In Japan for example, to take up engineering courses, you have to undergo 3 years vocational then after which you can proceed with the 3 year regular engineering course. Their vocational subjects are equivalent to the subjects that we have in our first three years in college.
