Half Sigma: Why a career in computer programming sucks
As you get older, you're skills and interest for learning decreases.
Just a heads up for things that can come.

thanks for sharing! naa ko experience ana, una kay borland's turbo c/c++/basic/pascal then sunod kay microsoft's qbasic then visual basic. mao na mo-prefer na ko ug language nga standardized ang specification/implementation (ansi/iso c/c++) regardless sa vendor para minimize sa epekto tungod kay cgeg usab2x. python ay ganahan unta ko pero look what happened sa version 3+, history keeps on repeating itself. In nearly all other professions, knowledge capital increases as you grow older because you keep learning more about your field. But in computer programming, the old knowledge becomes completely obsolete and useless. No one cares if you know how to program in COBOL for example. It’s completely useless knowledge.
bisan sa web, mas mo-prefer ko gamiton to mga implementation nga compliant sa w3c specs compare to vendor-specific implementations which, worst-case scenario, tag soup ang resulta plus kung naka-quirks mode na kay labad na kaayo sa ulo i-develop. pero naa jud times di na malikayan nga style, maoy naka-faet sa programming life.
anyway, my point is kapoy kaayo cgeg kat-on unya sa sunod version release, usab na pud ang style. hahay na lang.
EDIT: kahinumdom hinuon ko sa clipper ug dbase iii+ da.

you need to be jack of all trades para dili ka ma biyaan.
Sa bata pa ta ganahan kaayo ta mo learn new things and develop nato ang skills sa programming bisan unsa language, pero nig maidad idaran na malahi na gud ang hilig, magka anam ug kawala to learn to tungod sa kadaghan na nga variation sa programming language, mao na ako concentrate lng gyud ug usa ka programming language bahala na ug oldies but goodies. anyway pangwarta man ni atong profession dli man pasikat.
If you are older, and still need to program to make some money, then you would have better learned to bake bread
If you are good in young age, you wont need to program anymore when you are older
first month pa nako sa IT industry...=D
mag learn na lang pod kog laing mga skills...
ge lang..dako bitaw og sweldo ang mga IT professionals...
Another man's meat is another man's poison.
So if you decide to believe or take seriously what this guy said, please remember the following.
We are in the Philippines, the guy who wrote this is American.
I believe America can only get out of their recession when they start doing what they have done before which was Innovate, give all those IT jobs to us and focus on creating new Technologies and new Jobs. They have the resources to do so and have all those experts, doctors, and specialists.
Lastly, being in the IT industry, the most we could do is only to support or enchance the overall output rating of humankind. It is with those new Technologies where there is real significant contribution.
Am I saying that Third World Countries can't do these things? No, I am not, but compared to First World Countries, their governments serves as good foundation to support the research of new technologies where our governments are only capable of reacting to what our current needs are. Heck, some needs aren't even being talked about.
To continue my point, there are a lot more jobs that could be a lot worse than programming.
He keeps mentioning Law, Medicine and Finance, that is just a small chunk of the jobs anyone could do.
It is a continuous learning process... If you stay within your comfort zone, then you will be probably be left in the middle since nagkabag-o ang technologies, nagkabag-o ug nagka-advance ang programming techniques and its languages...
For me, my transition from foxpro to visual foxpro; from visual foxpro to delphi, from C to C++, then to C#; from delphi to PHP/Ajax isn't that easy. It is what the business community requires, and so we have to adopt this newer technologies... like i said, if we dont venture into new set of skills & techniques, then we will be left in the middle scratching our own heads, seeing those young guns earning more than us...
Just my 2 cents though...

Wrong.
If I were older right now lets say 30 years old, I prefer to be a hardcore perl programmer than a sophisticated PHP programmer.
This has been discussed in slashdot long ago (Slashdot Technology Story | Tech Sector Slow To Hire). Here's a comment that really got me:
Had a friend who had a long stint of unemployment. A large part of the problem was companies that use recruiters, and have *****s write the job requirements. There were so many jobs that when you filtered through the bullshit, he probably could do. However he'd have to lie about his qualifications to get them, and he won't do that. Shit like "Must have 7 years experience in Ruby, Java, Perl, PHP, and MySQL." Ok so they are looking for a web app and they don't know what they want it in. Fine, he can do that, he's a real programmer in that he can learn new languages. He also has done all those. However he can't truthfully say 7 years of Ruby experience. He's got 15 years of Perl experience, but only 1 of Ruby. Doesn't mean he's bad at Ruby, just that he didn't see the need to use it till recently. However he gets filtered since he doesn't "meet the requirements" and instead they get the liar types who don't know what they are talking about.
if programmer ka karong unya programmer ka gihapon ka unya puhon... aw way ayo... para nako im web developer today and web dev and design company owner soon!!!
