A PUBLIC school teacher was killed while another was wounded yesterday after they were shot inside the Tubod Elementary School in Minglanilla town.
Teacher Serafin Villahermosa, 36 and a resident of Cebu City, died of a gunshot wound in the chest that pierced his heart.
His companion, Roger Maunis, 41 and a resident of Springwoods Village in Minglanilla, remained at the South General Hospital in Naga City.
Police said the teachers were attacked by two men on board a motorcycle while they were about to leave the school grounds about 5:30 p.m.
PO2 Avelino Selloria said the police believed that Villahermosa was the target of the still unidentified gunman since shots were aimed at him.
Selloria said the motorcycle driver parked the vehicle with no plate number near the school gate and acted as lookout while his rider entered the school to look for his target.
The driver was wearing a helmet while the gunman was described by witnesses as wearing a bonnet.
“Maunis walked ahead of Villahermosa but the killer did not shoot until Villahermosa was near. After Villahermosa was shot, the gunman shot Maunis but only hit him in the arm,” said PO2 Selloria.
Villahermosa's 13-year-old son, Kim Jones, who was walking beside him, was not hurt during the attack.
Selloria said it was not difficult for the gunman to locate Villahermosa since the school was deserted. Most students and teachers had gone home at that time.
Police recovered from the crime scene empty shells which were believed to have come from a 9mm pistol.
Selloria said colleagues were shocked with the killing of Villahermosa whom they described as a nice person who did not have any enemy in school. /with Correspondent Carmel LOISE Matus
