Default Five tips for healthier summer skin

Down more than eight glasses of water daily.
As the temperature rises, the more we need to replenish our bodies with water. Ordinarily eight to 10 glasses of water is sufficient to keep ourselves hydrated, but this changes once the weather’s warmer. Drink when you feel thirsty, and carry a water bottle around to keep fainting spells at bay, and keep your skin dewy.

Pile on the SPF, even while you’re indoors.
SPF (Sun Protection Factor) 15 is fine when staying indoors, but SPF 30 and higher is advisable when you’re going under the sun. Even halogen lights can emit SPF rays and over time, can cause damage to the skin, so it’s best to put on sunscreen early in the day. Research suggests that we need at least half a teaspoon of sunscreen on your face and kneck in order to reap its full benefits.

Moisturize first, and protect yourself after.
Most people are diligent when it comes to proper skin care, but not many know that putting on sunscreen before your daily facial moisturizer is a big NO-NO. The sunscreen will become ineffective once it’s mixed with moisturizer, making its sun-protection qualities ineffective so wait a few minutes for your skin to absorb the moisturizer, then place the sunscreen on top.

Choose what works for you: Cream or gel?

How your moisturizer is formulated matters, as the temperature rises. While a cream moisturizer works when the weather’s cooler, skin tends to get oilier when exposed to warmer climates. In that case, grab a bottle of gel-based moisturizer when you’re in need of some skin protection. (VMV Armada has a great line of sunscreen products suited for different skin types.)

    Remember ‘Slip Slop Slap’
Over a decade ago, the Australian government came out with a skin cancer and premature skin aging campaign (you know how those Aussies love their sun). Their slogan was, Slip on a shirt, Slop on sunscreen, and Slap on a hat. It’s best to do as the Aussies do when you’re out on the beach or expect to be out in the sun.
