its the year model ma'am, those 250k plus units are the old sportage units i think from japan na if im not mistaken, some are converted and some are original left hand driven. the ones you are referring na mahal are the brand new ones, mao mahal kay mga bago man na model.

surplus units are mostly reconditioned na... meaning they've already undergone repairs and re-paints, re-wirings and etc. u'll serve as the 2nd or third or maybe ika pila naka na owner.

nevertheless it all depends on where to buy these units and how keen and meticulous you are on inspecting them.

well of course, y not?? if you're planning to buy one, i think its much better to bring a mechanic with you para siya ang mucheck... I drive a picanto, but my mother owns a nissan march, surplus unit and converted. ok ra man ang dagan, lately nadaut lang, guba ang velosity na kay bun-og kaayu mu drive. hehehehe.. but ana man jud na ang reality when u buy 2nd hand cars, mas dali siya maningil as compared to brand new ones.

do you have plans of buying one ma'am??

    hello...

it's not really surplus against the "branded". the appropriate term is Local Unit ^_^
'coz some surplus units are "more branded" than the local units, 'coz they are made in their place of origin.
For instance, as mentioned above, sportage. surplus Kia Sportage are originally from S.Korea.
others are from japan. in japan, they have a law that car owners are only allowed to have their units on the road for a max of 5 years. if some of their citizens plan to extend the use, then they have to pay additional fees. that's precisely the reason why there are lots of japanese surplus units here in our country.
Some surplus units are okay namn. dpnde sa pag convert. some are not. pero dli jd na cla ing ana ka bun og dd2 sa japan or korea ky nndot man ilang mga dalan dd2 hehe. i've been to both places.
the parts are even better ky made from japan/korea jd.
some of our local cars sold here sa pinas ky dli man made from japan/korea, especially japanese cars. some are made from thailand. if not, mostly...

about sa sportage, kanang 250k ky grand sportage nana mam?
sportage are okay pud baya...and they are proliferating here in cebu...
i just heard from my mechanic nga mdyo kalas ug head gasket hehe.

ang best jd ana mam is to bring your trusted mechanic, and have it test drive jd...kanang taas2 nga test drive. and kanang walay kalampag...

i think you won't have a problem sa parts 'coz nagbaha napud na dri ang kia parts hehe

Very well explained, for used cars, I prefer surplus cars than the local unit, coz the roads in other countries are very much better than our roads here, so taga byahe nato cge ta kasugat ug liba-ong so mal-mal jud ang local unit kaysa sa surplus kay wla man liba-ong sa lain lugar like japan & korea..

i just heard from my mechanic nga mdyo kalas ug head gasket hehe.
ngano makalas man ang head gasket mura imo mean cylinder head kay dali ni sya ma overheat gud, if guba imo head ilis ka tanan , top overhauled then head gasket and more parts..

ok raman na surplus brad if ikaw owner kamao sad ka mo well maintened.

    i have bought a surplus.
my own experience is if you can afford to buy a new car go for it.
if not go surplus sure there are problems bound to arise when buying surplus cars. in my experience its a ton of headache. come to think of it you get what you paid for... and then some.

will i buy another surplus? hmmm if i really have to i would, but i prefer not to..
in my opinion local second hand cars would be a better choice.
