Default Some Skycable Subscribers will now be forced to use Decoder Boxes

From the letter I received from Skycable which arrived today...

    "17 July 2006

    Dear Valued Subscriber,

Greetings from the Biggest Show on Air!

This August, SKYCABLE Pacific CATV, Inc., will launch the Addressable System in your area, one of our projects aimed at continuously providing you the best service possible.

In this project, cable signal will be encrypted and only legal subsribers who have the Addressable Box will be able to receive the cable TV signal. This will solve signal problems caused by illegal connection. We will provide an Addressable Box and remote control in your area without extra charge during this test period. After the project or should you decide to discontinue our service, your required to return the box to us.

Furthermore, once we roll out our value-added services, you will be able to enjoy special subscriber benefits and privileges such as the flexibility of choice through the Prepaid Service and access to various offers and select programs exclusive to subscribers on the Addressable System platform, and others that will ultimately bringing you to the forefront of technology. Truly, a world of limitless possibilities made available for you!

Our authorized Service Crew will install the Addressable Box in your TV sets and will orient you on this. If you have other questions regarding this endeavor, please free to call our Customer Service Hotline 3464-255.

Thank you very much for your continued cooperation.

    Very truly yours,

    Fernando L. Pacio, Jr.
    Aread Director - VISAYAS"

Will have to ask how much pa...

In my opinion, it's just there way of getting more revenue than preventing illegal connection. The phrase
... and access to various offers and select programs exclusive to subscribers on the Addressable System platform...
clearly hints to their ultimate goal.
