Few weeks ago, I joined a talk from a famous Stanford Univ. Physicist who holds many patents. Anyway, during his talk, he said that if a civilization becomes very very advanced, they will probably know how a race progresses in time. They would probably also get a lot of attempts for communication from primitive civilizations/races (like us). So maybe these advanced civilizations will get annoyed by all these attempts and decide to conceal themselves from us. As a result, we see a lot of matter which we cannot actually see , the 'Dark Matter.' And maybe if we take into account all the dark matter in the universe, it may also sum up to the total number of advanced civilizations in the universe. haha! Anyway, he said it in passing during his talk and was meant as a funny thought provoking joke. hehehehe
