I just read one of Dr. Phil's writings. It says, to keep a relationship from becoming ordinary and conditional, you need to do 3 nice things for your partner that is out of the ordinary (not something you do on a regular basis) and unconditional (not asking for anything in return). and you are supposed to be able to name those 3 things (or write them in a journal) by bedtime. Dont let your partner know that you have this daily dose of "relationship vitamins."
Maybe you've been doing this trick from the very start of your relationship without you knowing it. Why dont we make an evaluation right here and see if we pass. We'll make a list of 3 extraordinary (doesnt have to be big and dramatic), unconditional, and kind things you did for your partner yesterday. Be true to yourself and count only the ones that you did for no reason, for no ocassion. I'll start with me.
1. I cooked breakfast while my husband was asleep
2. I wrote him a love note and secretly slipped it into his wallet. I'll wait until he finds out about it.
3. I made him a playlist in the iPod of all his favorite songs and played them all evening without complaining about it..
If you think you dont have even 1 thing to put in the list, just make a list of the 3 things you plan to do for him today or tomorrow..
