BANTAYAN Party 2010 Review:
(Feel free to post comments and reviews)
Like many Cebuanos I went to bantayan this weekend, expecting the best party of the summer with old friends and making new ones. Being an avid and Elite party-goer, advertising and marketing professional, of course I had to come.
En route everybody of course was so excited, people in the buses and on the boat. Everybody was expected to have a Blast!!
All that changed as soon as you got to the entrance of the venue (Sugar Beach). They ran out of wrist bands on Friday, so they had to resort to using stamps on people's wrists (at the beach where 90% of the people go to the water?!?!?). We ended up getting our hand stamped every single time we entered and exited the resort! If your stamp got erased, you had to bring your receipt back to the entrance/exit for verification. Most tents were really far from the entrance/exit. When you finally get there, you will be greeted by huge bouncers with the people skills of a hair-dryer! Bouncers on steroids, power-trips and paranoia! The only thing I actually liked about them were the Camelback-pouches they were wearing, which were really cool. But that's about it. (This Bouncer issue went on throughout the entire duration events)
Then of course we had to try to enjoy out stay there so drinks and trips to the beach were in order, we enjoyed ourselves very much! No events, just us friends and everybody else chilling. Then afternoon siesta to get ready for the Friday night party! We all prepared, had some dinner, then some drinks of course.. We then proceeded to the stage area when to my surprise, there was a huge projector screen showing "The Ten Commandments" OMG, I mean I have nothing against this religious depiction, but I can watch the movie at home for FREE!!!! in english, tagalog or bisaya!!! When the movie was finally done (after 3 hours) there a very long downtime (segue) till the next event. We have to find something to do before then. (By the was the Segue/downtime issue occurs throughout the event) Then of course the Acoustic session with the band (good friends of mine) was very cool and chill... After that of course was "SUPPOSED to have a DJ Mixing session right after" this did not happen because at the last minute, they decided not to push through with it. Can you imagine what it was like for those who paid the entrance fee for that night?? (They all said the same thing, we paid the entrance fee for THIS
![Huh](images/smilies/huh.gif)
) That was Friday night.
For Saturday, we decided to do some sugba-sugba then start with our own party a couple of hours before lunch which was great (drinks and more beach fun), I had great friends! We had a lot of fun, after that we headed for the stage area to see what's up. They had this "Amazing Race" type deal which looked like it was fun, but only for the 20 or so people who actually joined, the rest had to find something to do. Even the commentator had some English speaking issues (He should have spoken Bisaya instead). Again, people had to find their own things to do to stay occupied. Cebuanos are so good at that I'm so proud to be one, more drinks and Chilling for everybody else. Then Siesta before the night party of course... They started with a Boxing match, which went well ok, except for another commentator with more English issues... Then more problems with the segue/downtime between shows.... Then another acoustic session started which is always cool, no highlights there. Then another segue which felt like forever for the last event which was the DJ mixing thing. Fireworks set things off which was "ok" we were about 50 feet away but it was not impressive, been there, done that... Then the music started, that went on well for about a couple of hours, and the people danced and had fun, after that people started getting bored with the same old crap and went off to drink with friends of just hangout somewhere else. That was about it.
The trip home was good as we had our friends, and the people were all Chill...
REVIEW:
I would rate this party: 2 out of 10
If it weren't for my friends and the great Cebuano attitude, the party would would be rated 0 out of 10.
Poor organization, party created to fit the needs of the staff and not the guests, poorly-trained staff, poor party concepts, drink prices jacked up twice in one day (Saturday), no originality in event concepts, unprofessional staff, poor facilities, no steady supply of water, unsanitary toilets, damaged toilet facilities, few food choices in-house, unkept promises, shattered expectations and lost prospects & patrons. The Bantayan party scene would never be the same again.
Many thanks to "3some events" for hosting the party.
