How safe is Iligan and GenSan?

Hi,

I'm considering applying for a job position that has Iligan & General Santos City as part of my area and will therefore constrain me to visit those areas. I know Cagayan de Oro is safe but is Iligan and GenSan safe as well? I'm not really familiar with areas in Mindanao and my wife says Iligan & GenSan areas are dangerous. I don't wanna take a higher pay if it will mean leaving my son without his dad. Your inputs will be appreciated.

Iligan is practically safe...i was born and raised there myself.......i think its more on understanding the culture and understanding the people.Iligan is very rich in traditions and culture. It is a place where people of all sides(religion, etnicity,creed etch) are living in harmony. I realy missed the place especialy the sept. fiesta in honor of St. Michael. Mingaw na pud ko sa bugnaw kaayo nga tubig sa Iligan.....

both places are safe..my hometown is in gensan..maybe your wife heard about the bombings that happened BEFORE in gensan..but today, it's already safe.. .mas delikado pang dalan sa cebu...

Glad to know that. Is it safe to I can eat at restaurants even in evenings like at 8PM? Both places have taxi cabs, yes?

iligan is practically just the same with cagayan but only there are more muslims pero friendly. ayaw lng kalain sa sinultihan sa mga tga iligan na mura nangisog kay mao sad na ila accent sinultihan tga iligan.. mga ya-ya kuno ang tga cebu mo bisaya gud hehehe. by the way, ang mga muslim sa iligan kay mga maranao.. muslims in gensan are from maguindanao... totally different language. mas nindot ug sinultihan ang maranao(hehehe love your own kaau)

u dont have to be afraid bro, mali kau ang perception sa mga tao sa MIndanao, dili tanan lugar delikado. Iligan is safe pati na ang GEnsan. ang mga lugar na bukid na jud mao tong gubot. wala ka dapat kahadlokan didto bro.

i hate to compare bcoz ts was just asking if both places are safe but as general(yes, mao nay twag sa mga tao didto..like dabawenyo or manileño..) gusto lng pd nko i"defend" ang gensan..

i have nieces that study in iligan..iit to be exact..they're neither from iligan nor gensan..they're from surigao del sur..gstudy lng jd cla sa iit..pro pagmuvisit cla sa gensan..gnhan jd dw cla dd2..mas "modern" dw.. .idk, maybe novelty is a factor mao nkaingon cla ana pro cla n gtabok2 sa duha k lugar every now and then..i think, dpt pd cguro iconsider ila maingon..
