Is it necessary to put RAM in the first slot?

Depending on the motherboard I think. My MSI 785GT-E63 does not boot if I transfer my ram on the second dimm slot. Whereas my old ECS mobo doesn't care at all if I put it on the first or 2nd slot.

it doesn't matter if it's on the first slot...The only thing that matters is that when you want to have dual channel because it would depend on your motherboard's specifications where to put the pair of mems.

or the 3 stick kit on the blue slots
