    Default please advise - video card upgrade plan

    good day,

    i currently have these specs:
    core2duo e8400 (thermalright hr-01+)
    gigabyte ga p35-ds3l
    team xtreem 2x2gig ddr2 1066 (ocz xtc cooler)
    8800gt ichill accelero x1
    gigabyte odin pro 550 psu
    lancool dragonlord pc k62 dark ice casing
    western digital black 640gig

    i currently am selling a few extra pc items, and with those items, i think i can raise up to 6k, and i can also sell my current video card. for sure, with the items i can sell i will be able to buy either a 5770, gtx260 or 4870. but i can also save up more and buy a 5850. or i could just wait for the new mid-end cards of nvidia coz their new cards the fermi are hi-end and very expensive.

    ganahan jud unta ko sa gtx260 coz it is a little bit faster or du-ol ra sa 5770 and 4870 and i have already tasted 4870 so i know how fast it performs. and also ganahan ko sa gtx260 becoz sa nvidia mangud they say have more mature drivers and also importante mangud nako ang physx coz altho gamay ra nga games ga support ug physx, i wouldnt want to miss the eye candy it has to offer. lets say batman ra naay physx, of course mas ganahan judko mudula sa batman if naay physx. eyefinity and dx11 which are available sa ati are things i dont really need coz di manko mag multi monitor and i still want to stay with xp and i dont know if pwede ba ang dx11 sa xp. the only thing i don't like with the gtx260 is the power consumption. ang ati 5xxx pud advantage anang power consumption. hahaysss....

    so unsa jud maayo?
    A.) buy 5770 (di ba disadvantage kaayo ning 128bit niya?)
    B.) buy gtx260 (fast, with physx, but high power consumption)
    C.) save more and buy 5850 (super fast, no physx, low power consumption)
    D.) wait for the new mid-end cards of nvidia (i dont know when mugawas)

    E.) the decision is up to you.

    i think you have pretty much done your research already. most people here would recomend you ATI since most active members in this thread are ATI users or "fanboys".

    A.) buy 5770 (di ba disadvantage kaayo ning 128bit niya?)
    5770 is GDDR5 it compensates for the lack of bit.

    B.) buy gtx260 (fast, with physx, but high power consumption)
    it's faster by 5% against 5770 but other games ma lupigan sya sa 5770, PhysX is good if you play Batman, batman, batman.

    C.) save more and buy 5850 (super fast, no physx, low power consumption)
    better choice imo!

    D.) wait for the new mid-end cards of nvidia (i dont know when mugawas)
    March 27 release date for Fermi, so around Mid May - June sa Philippines ang fermi.

    er ? just because a person recommends ATI it doesn't mean he is a "fanboy".

    If you properly researched, and spent lots of time with Computer Hobbies you should already know WHY "currenty" ATI is the better choice. Yes ATI would be your best choice now! do i have to say why?

    People are going to recommend ATI now because of the 5xxx Series. It's a newer generation then NVIDIA's, it's faster, better, less heat, less expensive, and lastly very low consumption. Oh i forgot DX11.

    Nvidia is nice, but what better video card can they offer right now against ATI's current 5xxx Line up and some older 4XXX Line up?

    Let me bring up my Graphics Card Ranking list again.
    https://www.istorya.net/forums/comput...ted-daily.html

    It's not because of fanboyism, its called researching and knowing which is the better brand to get now.

    FERMI is coming yes, but when is it arriving ? Nvidia made an official statement its coming out on March 27.
    By that time around Mid May to June we will have Nvidia's Fermi in the Philippines.

    Is it worth waiting for fermi? it all depends on you, Me and many users aren't complaining of buying our 5xxx series video cards, as most of them came out 6-8 months ago? We didn't suffer waiting for a video card, we actually used, and have fun with the video cards! We didn't suffer for 6-8 months waiting for a video card to be release?

    If fermi wer here, and the benchmark showed FERMI is better then ATI's 5xxx series then i would recommend getting NVIDIA, assuming its a better generation now?

    I remember this kind of quotes and posts from users here and all over last year -> "LOL hahah you wasted money on 5870!! fermi is coming soon to own that!" <-

    8 months later? where is Fermi ? Sorry i enjoyed playing 8 months with my 5870

    When Fermi comes out, and its indeed better then my 5870 then i will upgrade to Fermi's GTX 480 or whatever model it will be named too.

    Am i an ATI Fan ? No, you should come visit my home, most of my computer's here use NVIDIA Cards ranging from 9500gt to GTX 285's.

    Still not satisfied ? Go to our store at Cebu Appliance Center, most graphics card we use are Nvidia 8500GT and 9500GT.

    If i was such a true fan of ATI, i wouldn't even bother using any NVIDIA Graphics Card nor even SELL IT if i was such a True fan of ATI. /facepalm

    Learn to love both brands, i even did a 5970 + GTX 295 combo like Jojobanana's before.

    Like any HD 5770 vs GTX260 vs HD 4890 posts here, I always say that both are equal but you have to consider that HD 5770 is more on technology and the HD 4890 or the GTX260 is more on power. This is where you answer the question "What do you really need?".

    To avoid a fanboyist reply about PhysX (so the fanboys won't cry), why don't you answer this simple neutral PhysX test below:
    -What games do you play?
    -Are the games that you are playing mostly supports PhysX?
    -Based on the list of games that support PhysX, do you really play most of them?

    If you answered DotA, HoN, CoD4, CoD4:MW2, Bioshock, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Starcraft 2, Diablo, Street Fighter 4, Counter-Strike, Left 4 Dead 1/2 or local MMOs in the first question, then you don't have to bother thinking about PhysX. These games do not support PhysX and is not beneficial but a waste instead to your games. If you answered Batman, Unreal Tournament 3, Darkest of Days, Mirror's Edge or any sort of games that support PhysX, then go for it. But I don't see why would you want to play the PhysX games because first of all, The games in the list SUCKS with or without PhysX. Well except for Batman and Mirror's Edge but majority of it sucks. That comment comes from a game critic, not from a ATI/NVidia critic.

    HD5850 is like a upsize fries/coke on a cheeseburger in McDonalds. Nara na nimo on what to do.

    D.), on the other hand, is up to you. If kahuwat ka, why not. Basin nindot pa diay ang fermi as long as the price is right.

    F.) Or you can quit whining about tough-guy ATI fanboys here and give the OP a decent answer. Don't tell us how emo you are because you're the alienated guy in this forum (because we don't really care and we don't have a ATI/Nvidia faction here).

    We're just better than the NVidia boys, we have no insult for that. We're no fanboys, we're just proud that we are educated consumers who pays the right price for quality items. We don't buy by the name, we buy by the need and quality.

    If I were really a ATI Fanboy then Nvidia started selling a Toyota Vios with the brakes, handbrakes and the gas pedal working for 1000 dollars and ATI was selling recalled Toyota Vios for 1000 dollars, then I would have bought a recalled Toyota Vios even if it was recalled just for the sake of being a fanboy. But the sad fact here is that ATI has the bigger stick. Until Fermi is not yet out and the feedbacks aren't out yet, smart buyers will have no double thoughts but to stick to ATI.

    DACB ang ako arrangement sa choices first from the left to the right daun. thats just me ha.

    @isyot
    nalimot ko mention, gamit diay nako ron samsung t220 22" gaming at 1680x1050 but i sometimes bring the reso down to 1440x900 if tan-aw nako mura nihinay. i also forgot to mention 512mb lang ni ako 8800gt.

    @sempron guy
    mejo ok paman performance sa ako 8800gt pero sometimes kinahanglan ko mupa lower a little bit sa mga settings + plus a little bit of the upgrade itch = ganahan napud mupalit bago vc. hehehe....

    @personal
    between technology vs power mura adto ko mu lean sa power performance coz i think thats what i need more, pero ako lang reklamo is ang korente gigamit aning gtx260 (i guess you cant have it all)

    @andz
    follow up question lang ko about sa imo sulti 5770 with 128bit compensated kay gddr5... so what about 5850 256bit man ni cya nya gddr5 pajud, meaning mas grabe pajud cya. and also 4870 is 256bit gddr5 man cya compared to 5770 128bit gddr5 pero ila performance mura du-ol du-ol raman. hehe... i think ang answer ani would be you cant compare two videocards of different series based on the "bit" and "gddr5" alone.... but i would still like to hear what you can say about this.

    mura ako choice ani sa videocard to upgrade would be narrowed down to only two choices:
    1) buy 5850 next month
    2) wait sa new nvidia cards and decide from there
    - so i think it will depend on how long i can wait and how much i can control the itch. hehehe...

    you are right bro they both have different architectures slight simillarity ra sa bandwidth, pero usually ang mga 128bit na ddr5 compensated na sa iyang speed compared sa 256bit na ddr3 although lahi sad ug architectures labi na ATI ug NVIDIA ang gi compare nimo. many things count as of graphics is concerned.

    mas maau wait ka pero pain sad na kay mag suffer ka 1month pero naa man sad kay GPU karon so di kaau na klaro ang kasakit sa dughan if ma delay ka sa imo upgrade anyways naa pa man kay GPU so 1 month will do para di sakit sa dughan kung naay bag-o na maka ingon ka na sus maypa kato nalang.

  10. #10
    @limes, mao lagi bro coz basin hapit na ang release ba unya hadlok ko palit pud dayun unya after one month magmahay. ok lang unta if mupalit dayun then after mga 6-8months pa mugawas ang mas sulit sa imo napalit. right now, naibog najud ko ug 5850 pero agwantahun nalang sa. heheh...
