    Hello there!

I am a Nikon user but, yes, the 40D is a very nice body from Canon. Most of my Canon friends have used or are using 40D and are very happy with it. No doubt, you will be happy with it too.

As for the lens, most of the reviews I've read are positive. It is very lightweight. Take note though that this lens is made for full frame cameras. I think 40D has a crop factor of 1.6x and this means that your 28mm now becomes 45mm (28mm X 1.6).

This is not really a problem but would just require slight adjustment on your end if you plan to shoot wide-angled shots (i.e. landscapes, architecture or group shots of people). as for long-distance shots, this lens is more than capable. the longest focal length that you zoom would be around 216mm (135mm X 1.6)

Try researching the net for more info about your chosen body and system.

here are some sites that i use: ( although there are a lot more out there)

Digital Camera Reviews and News: Digital Photography Review: Forums, Glossary, FAQ
Product reviews and prices, software downloads, and tech news - CNET (for camera reviews)
KenRockwell.com ( just take what he says with a grain of salt)

don't worry too much on gears yet. Spend time with your camera first, you will discover what gears you will be needing as you learn more about your camera. But I would suggest getting a camera bag right-away to keep your camera protected and a scratch free cloth to wipe your camera with.

There's a thread here on Istorya with regards to photo workshops, click on that for more info. There's also a photo club in here that you can join. Just click on the appropriate thread for that on rules on how to join. Lastly, you can always ask for help/tips/advices on Istoryan members. chances are, they are more than happy to help you out.

Congrats on your new camera and happy shooting!

Nice combo you have there. Nindot na nga camera ug lens mao na akong setup sa una when I shoot last year's SRP motocross event, ok kaayo ang 40D for sports photography, ayaw lang ka-adik sa iyang 6.5fps burst shooting

you can't go wrong with Tamrac and Lowepro

there are a lot more brands but these are ones that come to mind and would suit ur needs just fine.
choose a bag that fits your camera best. for me, a camera must padded to protect your camera from bumps and drops and sealed to protect your camera from dust and water. if you find a bag that does both but not mentioned above, by all means consider it too.

also choose what type of bag you prefer (backpack, shoulder bag, holster type and sling..to name a few). my personal opinion is that a shoulder bag would give you the quickest access to your gear while on a shoot. backpack is so-so on the ease of access but looks way cooler. and the sling bag is the most difficult. your preferences may vary so i suggest visiting camera stores and trying out a few bags till u find which suits you best.
