It was previously thought that the PC version of Alan Wake would be worked on after the release of its Xbox 360 version in May, but Microsoft has shattered hopes by confirming to Strategy Informer that Alan Wake will no longer be coming to PC.
"Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. We ultimately realised that the most compelling way to experience "Alan Wake" was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive. Both Microsoft and Remedy have long histories in PC game development. This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform." said a Microsoft spokesperson.
In july last year Markus Maki, head of development, said that they're focusing all their efforts on the 360 version, but will be making comments in regards to the PC at a later date. Although it now looks like this is confirmed as an Xbox 360 exclusive.

This one looks promising.
Alan Wake director Matias Myllyrinne has talked about the ways in which each playthrough of the game will differ
The game's protaganist fights shadowy beings known as 'the Taken' using various light sources against them. “We had this grand headline in our heads and later on paper: ‘in darkness, you fight with light’." Myllyrinne told NowGamer. "And you take it from there – what the hell does that mean in the real world and how does that play out?"
"Some of the things are evident, so there’s an escalation more in terms of light resources – flashbangs, light turrets, headlights on the cars, environmental lights and so forth – as opposed to having a traditional firearm gun-porn escalation. It’s a very different approach."
“We wanted to use the camera to develop the killer-thriller feeling”
The game will also increase tension in other ways, using dynamic effects and techniques to decide when the action peaks. "On the other hand, we wanted to use the camera to develop the killer-thriller feeling and there are a few techniques that we’ve applied to Alan Wake. But since these things are procedural, no game playthrough is identical to one another. They’re not hard-coded or scripted into the environment, and we have no specific way of knowing how you played it through when this or that happened.”

Be sure to read this!
Last week, at Microsoft’s big X10 event in San Francisco—where huge titles such as Halo: Reach and Fable III were revealed like never before—only one game aside from the aforementioned was available to play that we hadn’t had a chance to partake of before. And we were really looking forward to it. Alan Wake was made available for some true hands-on time to the gaming press, and we came away with not just a more solid idea of what this long-in-development game is really all about, but a real thirst to play more of the game.
As we’ve noted before, Alan Wake (from Remedy Entertainment) is an atmospheric and tense thriller that puts you in the guise of a famous mystery writer looking for his lost wife in one of those upstate small towns that only seem to exist in horror novels. Or at least that’s what I’d like to believe. An evil far worse than crazed hillbillies is plaguing the town, and Alan Wake will discover that the events unfolding before him are part of a book that he doesn’t remember writing. Spooky doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Alan Wake Hands-On Preview (Xbox 360)
Alan Wake's been coming for a long time. Six years to be precise. But when Remedy Entertainment started development on the highly anticipated title, they didn't realise that six months later, all would be thrown away and started again.
Why? Well in an interview with GI.biz, Remedy managing director Matias Myllyrine says it was due to one big mistake:
"We did make one big mistake, and we came back from that - it was trying to make a sandbox structure to a thriller, and that just really wasn't working. It felt deluded, and the pacing wasn't right - for a thriller the pacing is important, you need a bit of foreshadowing.
We probably threw away six months of work, which doesn't sound that bad, but it's a lot of work with substantial teams... we saw we could deliver an okay game, but it wasn't going to be a heart-pounding ride, it wasn't going to be a thriller in the true sense of the word."
Myllyrine also revealed that the game had been finished - other than polishing, balancing, tuning etc. - and fully playable since June last year.
The game releases exclusively for Xbox 360 in May, and is one of the most anticipated titles of 2010.
