AMD Phenom II 720 (Triple Core) or Athlon II 620 (Quad Core)

Hi Istoryans,

Maayong Hapon sa inyohang tanan mga fellow istoryans!

Need a little help here. I'm planning to purchase a decent gaming rig VERY SOON! (tomorrow)

And im confused what procie to choose from.

Is it going to be the Phenom II 720 (Triple Core) or the Athlon II 620 (Quad Core)

Here's an overview of both procies:

Phenom II 720 (Triple Core) Athlon II 620 (Quad Core)

Clock Speed = 2.8GHz Clock Speed = 2.6GHz

L2 Cache = 1.5Mb L2 Cache = 2Mb

L3 Cache = 6Mb L3 Cache = None

I will be using my PC for Gaming but I'm really not into Hard-Core Gaming stuff

I play games like Left 4 Dead 2, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Crysis 2, HoN, DoTA, etc...

So whats the verdict here? What do you think is a good procie? Hmmm...

6MB L3 Cache or an Extra Core?

I'll go for the Athlon II X4 Quad anytime, in my opinion, difference lang nila sa duha is that the athlon II X4 has an extra core, so for the same price? ( murag mas mahal pa man gani ang phenom ), pag quad nalang. More than a dozen of games are already optimized for multi-core support. Dragon Age, Lost Planet, World in Conflict, Company of Heroes and GTA IV to name a few. Overclocks well too, saw someone running it at 3.6ghz beating the stock clocked i5 on 3dmark 06 which costs twice as much.

biased opinion, pero ive read somewhere mas mu make og difference ang extra L3 cache kaysa sa 4th core kon games ang istoryaan. tri-core seems to be the sweet spot sa games, the 4th core is very seldom utilized, while ang L3 cache kay gamiton na EVERY SINGLE TIME. i did unlock my 4th core so dili na matter sa ako, but basin maka tabang nimo.

Naa bay amd dual with l3 cache? If me papilion, il go for a phenom. By the way, anu plan mu na vidcard at board? Mem na rin. Hehe..

@planet_ttc: yep, naa dual w/ 6mb L3 cache. mao na xa phenom II x2 family.

i will be using a Gigabyte GA-MA745GM-US2H MoBo, not sure pa sa GPU and memory...
